Waypoint 2020 light primer strikes

Just checking to see if anyone else has run into an issue with their Springfield Waypoint 2020 giving light strikes? It happened to me last year. At first I thought it was the seating depth of my primers as only some of my handloads were affected then it eventually moved it's way into factory rounds as well. After digging into it I found the double set screws on the underside of the shroud to have backed out some and allowed the firing pin to slowly lengthen out some and start causing light strikes. I should have made a video of disassembling the bolt but have since sold the rifle (not due to this issue). Both set screws (I'm guessing one is meant to lock the other in) had worked loose by the shroud and spun freely. After moving the firing pin deeper into the shroud (and successfully getting it to fire reliably) I added a little Loctite to the 2nd screw hoping this will resolve the issue.

I had roughly 450 rounds through mine when it had the issue and a buddy just had it happen to him but his had over 2K rounds through his. He bottomed out the firing pin in the shroud and it's back to running well for him.

I know this is an older thread, but I’m currently having this issue. I only see one screw on the bottom side of the shroud, and also how do I go about moving the firing pin back in the shroud?

There will be the one set screw and once that's out, I had a 2nd set screw under that. When the first is out and the 2nd is backed out some then you can He-man screwing the firing pin deeper into the shroud or relieve spring pressure and screw the firing pin in deeper then put the two set screws back in place.

Ohhh okay I gotchya, thanks for the info! Hopefully this is all it takes to get mine running again. It decided to give me all sorts of problems today at an NRL match 😏

Hope it got it running for you.

It worked like a charm! Back to running normal. I’m glad it was a simple fix and not a serious issue. Wish I would have known to do that at the NRL match lol

Well, I'm now getting light primer strikes (click- no bang). Not even getting a mark on the primer. I tried all the recommendations listed above. Still no bang. Looks like I'll be calling SA tomorrow.

Sorry it didn't fix it for you. I'll attach a measurement I did that was for my records of what I needed the length to be to get consistent firings.

Was that all the way in?
I only got to where I got reliable strikes and went a 1/2 to 3/4 turn more then called it good. I know my buddy that did his said he screwed it in all the way in his, I never asked him to measure what he has for a measurement. What measurement do you get?

Gotcha. I had tightened mine all the way in and it was about 5 even. I'll play with the length and see if that works.

My 6cm waypoint had the same issue light strikes at around 250 rounds. Pulled it apart cleaned it same thing. Seen this thread and luckily had the right Allen wrench with me, unscrewed first one, then loosened second set screw. screwed pin in about a turn and a half which is almost all of the way probably have another quarter turn to max. Back together and worked great for the next 5 strings. Thanks for the advice. I will say neither set screw was tight, and when I put it back together neither one got tight but they did thread back in.

Glad the fix worked for you.
