Waterfowl system recommendations

Seems like a lot of you have your clothing systems dialed in pretty well for mountain hunts. I’m looking for a little help with my waterfowl system.

I hunt September teal when it’s 70+ til January when it can be below 0. Right now pretty much all my gear is Sitka. Core LW shirt, grinder hoodie, gradient hoody, duck oven jacket, Delta jacket. Bottoms are core mid or heavy bottoms and gradient wader pants.

Biggest problem I have now is I get too hot while walking in (I’ve got uninsulated waders, but depending on the water/air temp have to wear some insulation under them). Then I’ll get cold waiting on the sun to come up after I get all sweaty walking in.

They’re also bulky and heavy.

I don’t know that there are better options for waterfowl that are durable as I’d want them to be, but thought I’d ask.

I’m debating getting an ambient jacket since they’re supposed to breathe while working. Have also debated a jet stream to cut wind and avoid having to use duck oven or Delta jacket.

Any suggestions?

I had to switch to light pants, merino 120 baselayer, and grinder hoody for setting decoys out for field hunts. We usually spread out hundreds of full bodies in muddy corn stubbles. After we are done setting up I cool off a little then layer up heavy. Bibs, ambient coat, jetstream jacket if needed, and a beanie. Pretty similar to hiking to a glassing knob honestly

Yeah it’s a lot easier to do in a field hunt. My biggest struggle is when I’m wearing waders.

We walk up to a mile pulling jet sleds into some holes. Getting all sweaty is just part of the deal imo. Nothing you can do. I’d sweat in shorts and t shirt. So my thought is to just make sure I’m going to be warm enough for the inevitable sit in the cold. Take a layer off when walking in etc. pretty much a Dakota/Delta guy. Insulated waders when walking is what it is lol.

That’s been my experience but I know the mountain guys put a ton of thought into their systems so I’m guessing they’ll have some thoughts on how to make things better.
