Ive been duck hunting in my regular hunting jackets. Id like something with better layout for shells , calls maybe higher chest pockets for stuff i want dry and some water repellent. What is the go to waterfowl jacket 30’s and above temp range with a $200 budget

I know it may be outside your budget new but the Sitka wading jacket is the most legit jacket I’ve used. They really have their waterfowl stuff dialed. The Columbia jacket is alright too. Maybe you can find the Sitka used on duck forums/fb groups for a reasonable price.

Thats what my hunting partner said as well . Im hoping someone knows a sleeper pick

Wearing with Waders? Boat, field, pit hunting?

I got the delta 40% off last year but it doesn’t see near the use that the Dakota pullover gets. If I had only one pick of the Sitka waterfowl stuff it would be the Dakota. I bet after the season I could get the Dakota for around your price or maybe a little more for the delta.

If you already have some insulating layers and want shell to go over everything, go with the delta.
I have just worn waiste high waders for years so can’t comment on tucking the Dakota in chest waders. Also way more pockets on the delta but the Dakota is a really nice piece and I really like pullovers for some reason.

I appreciate it , the Dakota looks awesome. id like some insulation so the Delta might be a no go unless i throw it over my Kelvin

I bought this jacket new at the end of last season from Drake Waterfowl and it’s really nice and warm and is closer to the budget you have listed. They’re on sale now but don’t have many sizes available.

Honestly, I’ll be selling mine. I plan on gradually making the switch to Sitka. If you are interested in the one I have send me a PM.

The delta wading is plenty, I hunt the grasslands too and I usually go merino short sleeve, merino long sleeve hooded, guide vest, delta. Pretty versatile and goes down pretty cold. If I remember correctly you’re in the 209 too. Shoot me a pm and swing by sometime and check it out! The Dakota is kind of stiff and was too much for me, the grinder seemed like maybe a better choice but haven’t tested that one. Drake stuff can be comfortable but don’t expect it to be waterproof because it won’t be. My .02.

If you can find a used (its iscontinued) Sitka Dakota Full-Zip (with hood) it's different than the Dakota hoody and different than the full zip non-hoodie. It's my favorite jacket I've had for waterfowl from cabelas to drake. Some fleece backing for warmth, super windproof, rubber cuffs that actually keep water out. Good for boat rides to the blind in the low 30s with wind, strip a layer off and it's fine to the 50s. Not bulky, fit great under waders...for me anyways, it's the perfect jacket and should be in your price range if you can find one on Ebay

I'd compare it to a warmer version of the jetstreat, but with a handful waterfowl specific design features.

I’m in the same boat, basically a big game layer guy looking for a waterproof mildly insulated waterfowl jacket. No idea where to start. You waterfowl guys are a whole different breed im not used to yet haha

The grinder is basically a heavy weight hoodie or base layer if non hooded, with a tougher face fabric. If you have a heavyweight hoody or base layer I’d move the grinder down on the list of wants simply because how similar it is to the heavyweight

Forgot to mention if u get the Dakota used make sure it is the newer version that has a drawstring to cinch up the bottom of it. That was the only complaint about the previous model iirc

I have a couple of older Columbia wigeon parkas that are still one of the best waterfowl coats ever made. Some of our group run full Sitka and the Sitka gear is great as well. Just quite a bit more pricey

I agree, in that price range a Wigeon is your best bet.

I love the recommendations. I'm still duck hunting in an old school Herter's Brown Camo wading jacket!
PS - I like the Columbia and Sitka recs
