I am just getting started into my first year hunting. Looking to purchase my first license and will do a deer and elk tag, and probably small game. I want to start building points so I was looking at putting in for some of the quality elk areas and mountain goat hunts. Also will put in for multiseason for deer and elk.

Any suggestions or strategies you use for building points? Am I going about this correctly?

You have to decide what weapon you will be using and what side of the mountains you want to hunt and then apply accordingly. Draw odds suck in Washington and I am done once I draw my elk tag. Im sick of donating money to the state.

In your first 10-15 years you can just pick anything, it won't matter...draw odds are like 0%. You can build points in every group... bull elk, quality elk, either sex elk, second elk, damage elk, average elk....etc. you pay your $20 per entry and they never call you.

That's how it's worked for me for the last 20 years.

I'm 44, have hunted here every year and NEVER drawn a bull tag......and I've applied every year.
