I went to pull out some of the bullets I reloaded last winter and felt a bullet slide in the brass when I pulled it out of the case. I had used the full length resizer, where I had just neck sized before. I shot 6 of the new batch before I knew, and they still grouped with my old bullets. I found enough that were solid to hunt this weekend, but ended up pulling about 90 of them. I think I will pull all of them after the weekend and neck size all of the brass. I will make damn sure the first few are tight before I do the whole batch. I saved all the bullets and powder, so I think I will only be out primers, not counting all the hours flushed down the toilet. Any issues with reusing the powder? I had a bullet puller and was able to extract all of the Barnes ttsx without marking them. 9FBD43BF-5C31-494C-BDB7-7D21A664E6AB.jpeg

If you know, for certain, what powder is in all of them, go ahead and reuse all the powder.

Only have one type, so it would even be hard for an idiot like me to mix that up.

I actually did a full resize because some of the rounds were getting tight to chamber. I am wondering what I did wrong with the full length die that my bullets were loose. Never had that issue when I neck resized.

Any chance you missed resizing a couple, I’ve done that before. I thought I had them all resized, but when seating the bullets they dropped right in on a couple. Fired brass would do it, or having the nut set to high on the die/press so that the neck resize section doesn’t “crimp” it before pulling back through the resizer ball.

Possible. If that is the case I missed resizing most of them. I am guessing I didn’t have the die set up correctly, although I tried to carefully follow the instructions. It is probably apparent I don’t reload very often.

With your calipers, measure the diameter of the inside of the neck, before and after. Also, measure the diameter of the bullets. That will show you where the mismatch in size is. The best way to get the get that inner dimension is to measure the outside diameter of the neck, and measure the thickness of the brass. Double the wall thickness and subtract that from the outside diameter.

I, too, have had the "... Oh s***... I've got to pull this WHOLE batch..." Which sometimes has been 100+ rounds...

We’re all learning here. David Tubb has plenty of great videos and information. I treat his words as scripture. If you are learning, like myself that’s the guy to listen to.

David tubby certainly is a massive resource. He certainly won't steer you wrong. One thing to keep in mind is, he a benchrest shooter. Some of the things those guys do just isn't practicable for hunting, or even other forms of competition. Stuff like weight sorting brass, bullets, and even primers. Pointing and trimming bullets, etc

Depending on if the round were fired from the same rifle or not, “if not” the chamber could’ve been a touch longer than the current rifle. The shoulder of the case could be hitting against the chamber or the neck hitting the lands. It’s a game of thousands when it comes to head spacing and some are tighter than others.

Agreed, I like my holes to be touching at 200y but some guys are content hitting a dinner plate group at 100y. Tubb will give you the guidance to get there and beyond if that’s what you’re after.

Definitely. Anyone in any shooting discipline could glean something from a world class benchrest shooter. Just have to keep in mind his loading "context"

Thanks for all of the advise. I put most of my hunting effort into archery, but do enjoy rifle hunting as well. A long time ago I spent I lot of time working up a load that shot significantly better groups than factory. It was a long time before I shot enough of my original reloads that I had to think about reloading more. I guess I should expect some hiccups after years of not reloading. It can be intimidating to try to remember everything you forgot, plus throw in learning new stuff on top. All part of the fun I guess. Thanks again to everyone who replied.

Definitely sounds like a sizing issue. There is no problem reusing the powder or bullets. Reset up the sizing die and test size a piece of brass.

The reason I asked which die it was is because if it is a bushing die (I use Redding Type S busing die and competition seating die) is that it is possible the bushing fell out...this happened to me recently when I was cleaning the die the bushing fell out and wasn't replaced. As a result, I loaded about 15 rounds where the necks weren't sized but the shoulder and brass were sized. Luckily I noticed it pretty quickly and replaced the bushing.
