Walk-in Cooler.. Trailer Build

Saving this for later (don't tell my wife!). Hoping my son keeps growing his interest in hunting so we can start planning some out of state hunts.

I assume it's pretty easy to hose out between uses as needed?

Honestly i really don't need to hose it out. Putting the 5x7 cheap bimart tarp down catches all the blood, once season is over i pull the rubber mat out and mix a solution of bleach and water in a spray bottle and just spray everything down and clean up with paper towels. Pull the roof vent plug and open the vent and if the wind is'nt blowing to hard i leave the door open for 24 hours to air it out and it's ready to go for the next adventure.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. There were a couple times i had to slam on the brakes during the build for a little bit to re analyze what i was working on. For example if i had a list A-Z and try to do it in that order i would've been in a world of hurt. Some times working on EFGH and realize i need to partially start TUV to finish EFGH and while doing that start P so TUV doesn't screw me. You get what im hinting at, there were a lot of late nights just writing down my steps so i didnt screw my self in the future during the build and in the far future of actually having it 100% done.

I definitely get what you’re hinting at I’ve had to back track on projects before and it sucks.

This is a great post. We have been looking at doing a cooler in our barn build in the next year or two but the idea of putting it into a trailer instead has me really thinking about the options.

Thanks! The nice thing about my trailer is when i decide to sell my house and move i know wherever i end up i'll still have a walk in cooler

There isn't going to be much progress on the trailer this year. Money is a little tight right now but, one thing i had to get done before the next hunting season was a new set of skins on the trailer. I absolutely hate dealing with tires on the side of the road/HWY or out in the middle of BFE. The tires were getting a little thin and personally I probably could have gotten another season out of them but, decided to pull the trigger. Off came the 6 ply tires and just finished getting the new 14 ply tires mounted up The nice thing about the scissor jacks I installed on the trailer is I can take all 4 off at the same time. Don't get me wrong I was a little nervous, so I was in haul ass mode getting them on Found a good deal for a set of 4 Tires Suntek HD Plus ST 225/75R15 Load G 14 Ply on Ebay for $450 shipped to my door. Ran them down to a little tire shop by my house and for $70 the guy mounted and balanced all 4 of them. Gave him a $10 tip for how fast he got it done because i was nervous to pull in my driveway and seeing my trailer flat on the ground.

There has been a hand full of theft going on not only in town but heard a couple reports of theft where i hunt. I've always used a tongue lock on my trailer when i leave it for any amount of time but, the one i have anyone with a Sawzall and the drive can get them off. I researched and didn't want to pay $200 - $300 for one so i decided to build the Godzilla tongue lock. It would be faster to cut the tongue off the trailer and weld a new one on than try to break into this thing. 1/4" steel plate, extra 2 5/16" ball laying around in the garage and a lot of welding.
Cut the shaft on the ball and welded it to the plate, built the box to the size i wanted then cut the box in half, built my own hinge since there was nothing around for sale that i felt would be heavy duty enough. SCH 80 pipe with a solid bar through it plug welded on each end. Once it was mounted i cut the rear plate to fit around the latch on the trailer tongue. Ordered all new puck locks for the trailer so 4 latches on the trailer and on the tongue, all keyed the same which will be nice.
Once the housing was built, I welded the tabs on for the lock and had some 4" steel pipe laying around. I cut pieces and welded it around the puck lock to make it extra tamper proof. It turned out exactly how I hoped.
I plan on heading out and setting the trailer up at hunt camp and packing a bunch of water into my spike camp, the trailer will be there for at least 10 days before i get back for hunting season. At least I will be able to sleep a little easier at night now . Next project is a storm door chain I'll be installing on the cooler door.

Got the storm door chain installed on the trailer, I used 1/4" x 2" aluminum flat stock as the exterior and interior supports. Used 3/8" x 7" carriage bolts and used them to sandwich the door for a solid point to attach the storm chain to since the interior of the door has 4" of foam on it. Made my own mounting bracket for the door and drilled and tapped the aluminum to mount the bracket.
I needed a handle for the door so i did the same thing with more aluminum flat stock and sandwiched the door but i ran 3/8" x 10" carriage bolts through so I could mount the handle. On a buddy's hunt in the Mill Creek watershed i found a elk shed which was the base and G1, he broke the main beam off I'm assuming fighting during the rut. So I used that as the handle and just drilled it out where the bolts go and just sandwiched the antler with lock nuts.

Cooler was working over time on our deer hunt. Ended with 7 bucks down and had it running non stop, it was holding about 34-35 degrees at night and during the day around 38 degrees with it being around the low 80s outside. One thing i forgot was to get more E track rings, everyone's buck had to be quartered and packed except 1. Ended up doubling up some quarters once they started to scab up. Set up the awning i built in a wind storm and everyone was shaking their heads thinking i was nuts.. It held solid in 40+ winds, only issue was it kept pulling stakes so i got a plan for some stakes that wont pull under severe pressure.
