So VPA recently introduced the Omega SB with bleeders in a 125. I’ve been real interested in trying them but didn’t want to go 150 grain.

I placed an order tonight and wondering if some folks have experience with them in any of the weights. And maybe some kill photos if you have them.

Thanks!

Interested as well. Going to get some in the shop to judge interest
I’ve been intrigued for a while but didn’t want two blade or to change my tunes. I’ll definitely post what I find when they arrive but hoping some others will chime in too.

They look savage. And American made with American materials? I gotta try them.

Seems not much info so I’ll update this as I go. Got my order and finally had a chance to weigh them.

Kind of disappointed. They are all 8-10 grains heavy. I’m sure that will make zero difference under 40 yards, but what about at distance? What if I have a follow up and the animal is at 80-100? Won’t take those as a first shot, but no distance is off the table for a follow up.

Haven’t gotten to shoot them yet, but they appear amazingly well built and the blade thickness is great. But those weights……. Two to three grains either way is pretty standard. But 10? Am I overthinking this?

If they are all equally heavy than it shouldn't matter correct? Or are you saying that they vary in weight by 8-10 grains?

I really really wanted to use these but between the price and having to deal with sharpening blades I decided to just stick with mechanicals(sevrs) last year and they performed great.

Based on everything I have seen these Omegas should be a great head.

They are equally heavy. But ten extra grains at long distance can equal a significant drop. It takes my arrow from 440 to 450.

They are definitely sharp out of the package. I too prefer a mechanical. Think I will carry a couple of these in case I’m concerned about grass in the way.

I guess I didn't realize 10 grains could make that big of a difference. Then again, I don't shoot long distance. There's just no need to for what and where I hunt.

It may not. I will have to shoot at distance to see, but 10 grains has to slow it down some. Doubt it's outside my skills in close enough to make any difference but I wonder out far. I won't shoot at an animal past 60 for a first shot, but if it gets hit and runs to 110, I'm definitely sending until I'm either out of arrows or it's on the ground. Hopefully it's just not something I'll have to worry about but want to make sure it's accurate if I do. Definitely out west here, the shots can be tough.

You are not going to be able to shoot the difference. How hard you sit in your back wall from shot to shot will make a bigger difference than that will.
There’s no doubt in that. My skills are subpar at best. That’s one of the reasons I try to have super consistent gear. It may just be a confidence thing, which I need to prove or disprove so at the moment of truth I’m not in my brain stressing. Hopefully once I can get out to longer ranges, it will just wash out. I’m sure in close it’s a non issue.

I'm going to disagree on that, but maybe we have a different idea on what "Significant Drop" is, and what "long distance is" in terms of archery shots. In my experiences over the past few decades, it's questionable whether 10 grains will even change a sight tape or pin gap for typical hunting distances.

Here's a link to an archery ballistic calculator, that will calculate the differences at range for you.

For me, going from a 425gr arrow (274fps) to a 450gr arrow (268fps), at 50 yards my drop only increases 2.6" - and that's with a difference of 25 grains - not 10. Theoretically, 10 grains would be less than 1/2 that ... so maybe an inch more drop at 50 yards. Insignificant, in my opinion. I wouldn't even change a sight tape for that. At 100 yards, 10gr would make roughly 5" more in drop. I'm not accurate enough anymore, that I would be able to shoot a 5" group at 100yds, so that shot is off the table for me anyway. And I'm not out west shooting those kind of distances. I'm shooting whitetails in Virginia. Longest shot I've ever taken on a deer has been 36 yards. Before that ... 22 yards. 10 grains is nothing in that range.

Just some food for thought. Hopefully you find the link to the ballistic calculator useful.

My VPA Omega 150's with bleeders just came in on Monday. Comparing them to the Tuffhead Evolution with bleeders, I'm very pleased with the differences. Sharpening the bleeders on the Tuffhead was a no go- they ground away to nothing. The bleeders on the Omega's are beefy. I'm throwing some new strings on the Lift X this week, then will broadhead tune with these and hopefully put them to use next week.
