I tried doing a search but the number of threads is a little daunting, so i apologize if this has been discussed before.

I am looking to get a pair of 10x42 for my elk hunt this year. These two are the top of my list and I am just wondering if the Vipers are worth the extra cash. I know that the viper have a locking diopter ring and are slightly lighter. Other than that is the clarity that much different? Anybody use both? Thanks.

Don,

I have the Viper HD and love them. I looked at both in person and the edge clarity was better on the Viper's to me. That just my opinion.

Try and find a pair of Styrka binos to try out. Should be around the same price but I thought they blew away the vortex in performance.

I bought the vipers over the talon about 2 years ago. I am very pleased with my vipers. I did not see very much optical difference with my untrained eye. The feel in the hands, smoothness of focus, perceived overall build quality, and less weight pushed me to the vipers.

Thanks jason, I think I have my answer, now. Vipers are probably what I will end up with.

Hi Don, I am a rep for Vortex thru their marketing company at Cabela`s. I personally own the Viper HD`s and have had my hands on everything they offer for several years now. In my opinion, the Viper HD is the superior bino. I have owned my pair for 5 years now. I recently sent them back to Vortex for a good cleaning. They purged the gas and refilled , in addition to a thorough cleaning and new eyepieces. All at no charge under their awesome warranty. As you know, the Talon is longer and heavier than the Viper. However, it does have a slightly larger FOV. I also agree the edge clarity is better on the Viper. Good luck with whichever model you choose!
