Who has put another head on their SSP? I'm using the stock setup with the razor 50 and it's good, but when I put a 65mm on there it's basically unusable. Will a head swap help or do I have to go with another tripod?

That tripod isn't really that steady to begin with. My boss runs an 80 on his and his footage through a phone Skope is basically unwatchable lol. A 65 is definitely pushing the limits of that tripod, no matter the head.

I’ve put a vanguard, benro and Outdoorsmans head on mine. Definitely prefer the stability of my slik carbon kegs but in a short stance (about 3rd section) a different head is mikes ahead of the stock one

For backpack trips I use summit tripod with OD micro pan head and it's been awesome. I use Swaro el 10s and razor 50 spotter. Fantastic lightweight setup and wouldn't change a thing! For day trips I switch to slik 634 with OD pan head as it handles kowa 884 spotter and 15s better plus I like to be able to stand and glass when needed. I'd be happy to weight the setups with both OD heads as well as benro s2 head if needed.

The OD head is out of my price range, but thanks for the offer. I'm leaning towards picking up the Sirui Va-5 head and seeing how the Summit does with it. If it's not great, I'll probably pick up the slik 634 for the "bigger stuff" and keep the Summit with the stock head for use with my Razor 50.

I've heard great reviews of the sirui head! Also check out the PAN HEAD FPH-230 from field optics research. It looks to be a relabeled benro s2 and at $55 is a great option!

I run the same tripod and it works fine with a 65 mm scope at lower heights. But you are spot on about it when fully extended. I mostly use mine seated so not an issue.

@Researcher, there should be a hex head screw underneath the head.

I run an outdoorsmans pan head on mine, put 8's 15's and a 65 spotter on it. For sitting its fine, unless your on a wooden deck with the spotter ,but I would assume that's the same for most tripods.
I haven't used a carbon so I could be wrong.
