I am set on picking up a set of the 12x50 binoculars, and finally got to go look through both after a couple weeks of reading and research.

I was pretty sure I was going to go with the razors, but after looking through them I honestly couldn’t tell a difference.
I could definitely put that extra 500 bucks towards something else, so I was hoping to at least be able to notice the differe

is looking in the store at about 100 yards not enough to make any noticeable impression? or am I just not sophisticated enough looking through glass to be able to pick up the subtle benefits?

thanks in advance for any help or guidance on this one

Look further away and focus on smaller things. You should see a larger gap. With that said, if you only glass and hunt out to 100 yards just grab the Vipers. Otherwise spend the money and be done with it.

Several years ago I went to buy a pair of Razors 10s. In the store I was comparing them to SLC 10s. The Razors were looking great and I loved the money savings. Everything changed the moment I looked through a window and saw Camelback mountain.

I immediately handed the Razors back and bought the SLCs. While the Razors were competitive at shorter distances, they could not hang with the SLCs. Note: this was the older Razors and not the UHD model.

Call Doug and see what options there are.

Do you hunt inside a store? If not, then take them both outside at sundown and give them a shakedown. If the store won't let you do that then find a different store. Bottom line- All decent glass look very similar inside at close distances.

I have 10x42 Razor HD love them for their size and fantastic view ..I use them a lot ...for 12X50 I would step up to the
Razor UHD right there with the best of the best and I prefer them ..its all preference at that point ..warranty is the best
and ridiculously easy to deal with Vortex

Inside a store in artificial lighting conditions is no way to judge optics.

It would be our pleasure to discuss this with you, 516-217-1000, if you have the time to give us a call

Great question - there is going to be a big step up in optically systems from the Viper HD to the Razor HD line. At 100 yards in a store with artificial lighting it may not be a huge noticeable difference, but you should notice some. Where you will really notice the difference is in lower light situations and at farther distances. The Viper HD is a great choice for a bang-for-your-buck, but if both are in your price range the Razor HD is the superior bino.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Thanks for all the help guys!

I ordered two demos from maven (the c.3 and b.2) and found a good deal on a pair of razors ($775 to my door) to do some side by side comparisons checking out deer 500-600 yards away of the back porch
