Would you all say the 65mm is to big/heavy for back pack hunts? I love the little razor they have but have been told it’s not very clear.... I don’t need to count hairs but I do want clear glass

A good alternative to the 50mm razor with better glass and more magnification would be the new Kowa 550 series. Not sure what you are looking at budget wise, but I know a couple places had the Kowa for just a couple hundred more than the newest version of the 65 razor. It's about half the weight of the 65. Maybe give Doug a call at cameraland.

The Kowa Spotting Scopes are about as good as spotting scopes get. There are other spotters that would cost you less and be an excellent hunting tool. You say "I don’t need to count hairs but I do want clear glass" to which I would suggest you read this spotting scope review posted on a different forum. This series of Athlon Spotting Scopes is also available in a 7.5-22x50 ED for under $400.00 (make sure to call us, 516-217-1000, for your RokSlide special price).

You can still find gen1 65mm spotting scopes for sale New for about $800. They come in about 48 ounces which is over half a pound lighter than the new version and $400 cheaper. Plus I don't think glass wise the new one is any better than the old.

I don't carry the 65mms on day hunts i usually just take my Leupold 50mm because I cover i lot of ground and don't feel like carrying the extra weight. If I was doing a backpack trip i would probably take the 65mms it's heavier but would be worth the extra clarification, I can easily use the 65mms for glassing long distances the 50mm i can't.

I have the Gen1 65 angled. Although I like it...its heavy to carry that and a tripod on every hike IMO. Ive actually been contemplating a 50 so I can leave the 65 back at the truck for window mounts, short hikes, etc.

Lighter option but everything is give and take.

I would invest in the Kowa 55mm, I was not impressed with my gen1 65mm razor. The max zoom on the razor gen1 65 is 48x vs 45x on the Kowa. The Kowa is half the size and weight and much better optically. Don’t pay retail, talk to cameralandny and S&S archery on price. You may find it not too much more expensive then a gen2 razor.
