Vortex Razor HD old models

Is anywhere clearing out the old model Vortex Razor HDs? I am in the market for the big spotter or possibly some new binos.

The razor binos did not get replaced but the old razor spotting scopes can be found all over the classifieds. Also sportsmans warehouse has them as well as a few places online for about $1000-$1100.

I picked up the 16x48 spotter and vortex carbon summit tripod from optics planet for $1,000. This was back in september. I negotiated a little bit with them.

Hey guys, so I have been doing research on these scopes.

It seems like the reviews are mixed. The early reviews, it seemed like everyone loved them. Compared them favorably for the price to the Alphas (and Kowa) that cost more... and vs the Nikon Fieldscope III ED's, you might get *slightly* less clarity but you get a wider FOV and a better eyepiece, which seemed to even things out if not put the Razor ahead for hunting.

However, when I read threads over the past couple years, it seems to me (I have no data behind this obviously) that a lot less people recommend the Razor lineup.

Is there something I am missing? Did the competition improve, did Vortex quality lax over the years? Did Vortex get so popular it fell out of favor?

That would be my guess. Same thing happens with all sorts of equipment over all manner of hobbies. I've seen it over and over within the precision rifle optic crowd. Even Schmidt & Bender and Hensoldt weren't immune.

For what it's worth, I picked up a new Razor HD 27-60x a couple months ago and couldn't tell the difference between it and a non-HD Swaro. My buddy thought the Vortex was superior. Can't say how it compares to the newer Swaros. I'd guess not nearly as well, but the Razor is also a fraction of the price.

Optically quality is VERY subjective. I'm very happy with my Razor, and I'll put the savings into a nice tripod and head.

i think there is a 65 on here thats a year old with a tripod for 800 bucks.

I think you can get brand new (old version) 65 for 850-900 right now, and used go for even cheaper. Same with the 85's. Seems like a fair price if they live up to their reviews... which is why I am confused why they arent recommended more. Were they much more expensive until recently?
