Vortex Razor HD LHT 4.5-22x50mm Q&A

This hurts me.

I have one. Been on a long elk hunt. Dropped a handful of times. Shot an elk at 658yds in the heart. Not positive if it was me, the gun, luck. But it at least appeared to work. (Maybe I suck, the gun ways 2’ off and I got lucky….weirder things have happened and I’m damn positive it wasn’t my skill).

Not sure I have the balls to go drop it a bunch of times like you guys do. I’m still considering, but know if I did I couldn’t eliminate as many variables as the team here is doing.

BL: appreciate the effort and liking the results however they go. It’s an experiment and a data point. Helpful for sure.

Well said, in the end, we report you decide.

How about this, I will buy another LHT, fly to Colorado, and video you doing the drop test? Or whatever test you deem accurate??
@Ucsdryder is just up the road from me, and he has not one, but TWO LHT scopes. I offered to have a super drop day for my remaining untested SHV F1, two LRTS 3-12s, and whatever LHTs can be brought into the menagerie. I'm happy to drop whatever ends up in my truck, I just need to reload for that rifle.

These tests need to get out to everyday guys that make up the majority of the consumers for these products. I can't begin to tell you how many people I have talked to, hard core hunters, guides, shooters, Etc. That have never even considered drop tests or other ways of evaluating scopes. They use gear until it breaks and then buy something else without putting much care or thought into it. I think it's a basic situation of awareness to the issue.

There has got to be someone with more online credibility or a larger audience that can share this information to the giants such as YouTube and Facebook to reach more of the consumers and hopefully make an impact. Like it or not the people reading, and actually believing these tests is a small group (me being part of that group). But coming from an outside perspective I too was quite skeptical at first. Seeing is believing. And I think if we could get these videos to be shared in a methodical and consistent way by someone who has a significant following it could actually spark some change from scope manufacturers and get the regular guy to question things more.

Maybe this is wishful thinking, but you never know.

“Drop test 2…drop test 2…”

Great, maybe @CoStick can meet you there.

Sweet! Sounds like we have two LHTs and a venue to replicate the drop test in Colorado!

Why
F***em
If people don’t want to believe they don’t have to

A lot of us have done the hard yards working out what works and what doesn’t
If they choose to bury their heads in the sand and believe the hype it is not our issue

If for nothing else, to benefit us. To get manufacturers to produce more and a larger variety of scopes that meet certain criteria such as functionality rather than gimmicks and overhyped features. I could care less about what scope other people use but God damn I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to have companies producing quality scopes that hold zero and handle abuse. Yes there are some out there, but why not more? Why not have that be the priority of nearly all companies. It would push the envelope even further and spark innovation in the right direction. Like it or not the stupid people that have their heads buried in the sand are the ones buying majority of the scopes so glass and features are what the companies market for.

The majority of once a year hunters want "ultra clear glass" and "low light performance."
