Am trying to decide on a scope for a new Christensen Arms MPR in 338 Lapua and narrowed it down to either this Vortex Razor(have seen lots of positive reviews)or a NightForce 5-25x56 ATAC-R.The razor is $1100 cheaper($2000)compared to the NightForce($3100)and rifle will only be used on a range shooting paper and steel out to a 1,000 yards.Already have a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25x50 on a 300 Win Mag and it's a pretty decent glass for it's price, but looking to upgrade on this new rifle.Just wondering if you guys have had any first hand experience with this Razor, and if the NightForce is worth the extra $1100 for what I'll be using the rifle for?I know,"buy once/cry once"and I should just man up and buy the NightForce ATAC-R.

Thanks guys,
Jeff

Purely a range toy for paper and steel, either will serve you well. I ran their first Razor on a comp gun and it never failed, tracked perfect, excellent glass. Banging a steel plate at 1k is a fairly easy task, depending on the size of the steel. One of my first comp guns was a factory Rem 700 in 308 that ran a Bushnell tactical straight 10x and had no problem at 1k for paper targets.

Check out the Bushnell XRS II. Panhandle precision has a good review on it. I was making this same decision last month and ended up going with the XRS and glad I did.

Hey Rob,

Thanks for the reply bro.I'm down here in South Corona and the only range nearby that goes out to 880 yards is Pala, other than trying to find some open(if any's still open thanks to these knuckleheads)BLM land to stretch it out a little more I'm pretty much stuck to Pala.I really do like the look of the Razor HD(will be going on the Desert Brown MPR chassis)and think I'll just go with it and use the saved $1100 for another Atlas bipod(have the Atlas 5-H on the 300 Win Mag,great bipod but a little bulkier than I really like),ammo, etc.

Nice looking scope bro, just looking more towards the 56mm objective(my old eyes need all the light they can gather,I'm a geezer at 66:D).

Thanks,
Jeff

I have the Razor HD Gen 2 on a long range rifle. this has been used for shooting paper at 750 yards and hunting as well. A bit heavy for hunting but the eye relief is so forgiving you can get on target very quickly. Amazing light gathering being 56mm objective with a 34mm tube..You will not be disappointed.

Thanks for the reply bro, does look like a nice glass(and welcome the extra weight on the 338 LM,I'm 265 lbs. and absorb recoil pretty well but from a bench[or prone]every little bit helps:D).Was over at Larue and saw they have the NF 5-25x56 ATACR SFP with QD mount and rings for $2745 so still bouncing the choice back and forth.

Thanks again,
Jeff

I’ve used the Vortex and the ATACR on my match rifles The Nightforce is a great optic, but IMO it not worth the additional money. I’ve also shot the AMG a good bit. I prefer the Gen 2 Razor.
I shoot a fair number of PRS style matches and I see more Razors than everything else combined. It about the most bang you can get for your buck.
