Oregon Seed Numbers (We Got a Close One!)

You're not the only one. I can't count how many times I have explained Idaho's 2nd tag and 2nd draw process to my Oregon buddies. It seems they forget each year. Before the general tags sold out every year, it seemed that Oregonians couldn't fathom idea of buying a tag after the season had already started.

You’d be amazed how often I tell people they are wasting their breath on 2nd choices here in Idaho and they continue to apply like they have a shot. There are probably about 10 controlled hunts statewide that a guy could conceivably draw as a 2nd choice

I suppose if everyone evenly distributed and we didn't have dumb dumbs doing their applications, there probably wouldn't be any 2nd choice applications available. haha. The Red Desert 2nd/3rd choice pronghorn apps in Wyoming are what keep there being some options for residents in the draw, otherwise the numbers wouldn't work. haha.

I only add a 2nd choice entry because I was thinking that in the rare, if not impossible, scenario where IDFG cancelled my first choice hunt between the time I made the app and the time of the draw, the 2nd choice would then become my 1st choice, but I don't know that IDFG would actually do that. They would probably want another app fee.

I actually wish I would not have looked at my decent seed number, have myself convinced I have a shot when I definitely don’t!😂
I don’t look anymore because I want to hold onto that hope a little longer. When I have checked my seed numbers in the past and knew right away I wasn’t drawing anything, I was still disappointed on June 12 for some reason. So, I figure by not looking I only have to be disappointed once lol.

Curiosity is killing me, though! Best of luck to all of you!!

Wise advice. I looked at my seed numbers and was disappointed, so I'm likely to be disappointed again on the 12th.

I'm the opposite, I like knowing which ones are absolutely not happening. I can move on and don't feel so antsy waiting for June 12.

I’ve never looked, don’t understand seed #s, will never learn about it.
Here’s how I look at Oregon and getting even slightly excited about the draw.
9 years ago I helped a buddy on a bighorn sheep hunt down in the Pueblos. I applied for a Sage Grouse permit. I’m pretty sure the # was 75 given out. 77 people applied. Guess who didn’t draw???
Screw that. I like delaying my bad news.

Really good chance you get that. I am the closest I have ever been on bighorn sheep. I’m hopeful but I expect to be burnt. I’ll know more in 2ish weeks.
Me too with mtn goat. If I would have picked a unit with more than 1 tag I would likely draw but I think I’m just outside.

🤞
Hopefully not! You never really know. The entire rest of the pool could be millions away and you could have the best goat seed number in the state. Starting with the highest number, everyone you get right, you’re in the top 10%.

My dad is 2,418 above the seed # for his Goat application and with 2 tags for the unit, we already started planning! Lol, freaking lucky. My wife and I weren't even within a 500k of anything else and applied for everything.
Unless he gets really unlucky he should draw. What unit?
