The Viper HD 10x42's are coming down in price as well. By about 100.00 it appears. I would guess that the FURY can be bought somewhere for 1400-1450 if I had to guess. Promotive.com also has a great discount program for Mil, LEO or Public servants. Worth looking into for sure. I'm confident these will be very good quality for the price range as usual. For the mtn hunter thinking of weight and less gear, its one less thing to carry around.

Not true for the Leica Geovid HD-B binoculars. I bought a pair recently. Compared them side by side with my Swarovski EL Swarovision 10x50 binoculars in a wide range of lighting conditions. Optical quality was every bit as good.

I've found the very same thing - Originally owned 8 x 42 Geovid, then stepped up to 10 x 42 Geovid and this past November I ponied up for a 10 x 42 HD Geovid which is as good a binocular as I'll ever need, both sons will be getting them as well - Younger son is a "researcher" on EVERYTHING and would be willing to carry a RF to have better binocular but he's settled on the Geovid new as well because Leica is that good - I got mine NIB on Amazon from a camera shop in NY that had 4 for sale for $1899 - IMO a person would be crazy not to take the Geovid over any other for that price - BTW, a non family hunt partner got the new Geovid (can't recall the model number now) the one with the angle compensator, a lot of gimmick and fit the face completely differently and one eye piece fell off on the Wyoming hunt this year, definitely no my cup of tea - Geovid has my vote

I like this idea. I hunted for years with a simple pair of Jason Binos from 1990. I just switched to a set of Vortex 10x50 razors and was like wow. I'm sure the other brands are even better but for me, a set of these binos w/ Ranger finder is very exciting.

I can't see paying 1000 top to not not carry a range finder and having to use viper glass, just my two cents.

I agree, if that is the goal just get the Bushnell ranging Binos that are less then $1000 and have been out for years. I'm very surprised they went with Viper glass at this price range.

BUT....

My guess is the street price is $1199 and most open box (nib) deals are around $999. The vortex listed retail is $1599, the listed retail on the 85mm razor spotter is $1999 but sells for $1599 or open box (nib) for $1350ish.

So for under a $1000 they are an interesting option, I'll stay with my Swaros though.

They don't have the same edge to edge clarity, light transmission, or color definition, or CA control imho.

I thought that would be the case too, but then I compared them side by side over the space of a couple of weeks. What was most surprising was low light performance. I expected the Swarovskis, with their larger objective lens, to hold an edge in the low light of early morning and evening. It just wasn't the case. Both hand held and on tripods, the Leicas were every bit as good in low light. I was impressed with color rendering too. The Leicas had just as much color contrast and fidelity as the Swaros. With regards to chromatic aberration, I honestly didn't see it with either one under any lighting conditions. Edge to edge clarity is excellent on both. Could not tell the difference.

When I bought the Leicas, my plan was to hang on to my Swaros. However, after using and comparing the two side by side, I ultimately decided to sell the Swaros, because I could not discern any advantage at all optically, and the Leicas included a rangefinder and ballistics program.

I'm curious if your experience with the Leicas was the newest Perger-Porro prism HD-B model or the previous model with the more traditional construction.

I'll be the first to admit I often have a hard time making a big difference between my Razor and my buddy Viper and almost wonder if I made a mistake and coulda saved half my money....that said, I'll likely give these a try.

I agree. I had the Viper HD's and thought they where such a giant upgrade from my Monarchs that I figured I would buy the Razors and see the same amount of upgrade that I did between the monarchs and the vipers. Not true. I cant tell any difference. Now that being said I have not spent hours looking trough them, but me and a buddy spent probably an hour with the vipers and the razors passing them back and forth and both came to the conclusion that the Razors are not worth double the price of the vipers. Don't take this as putting down the Razors but more of how good the Vipers are. I will be getting rid of my Razors for the Furys .
