Vortex Ranger 1000

Looking to buy a Vortex Ranger 1000 rangefinder. Will be carrying on backpack bow hunt trip in Colorado. Any recommendations? or better bang for the buck?

My recommendation is to get something with a red reticle. Not sure if this has one or not. I’m using a sig kilo 1800 bdx. Cabelas had a kilo2000 for around $200 recently.

I Just re read your post. I thought you meant the cheaper vortex impact 1000.

I have had and used the Ranger 1000 since 2017. Bought it for an Elk hunt in Utah. It has not failed me since. Replaced the battery last fall. I bow and rifle hunt Whitetails locally and it is a must carry item. Did range an Elk at 700 yards while in Utah.

My gal and I both run ranger 1000’s. They seem ok to 300/400 yards, after that, their hit and miss on if they will pick up or not. Maybe we got duds, but I wouldn’t recommend them. Both of us are looking into Leica for this season.

For this reason, I switched to a SIG Kilo. If bow only, I think it's fine. If you need for > 300-400 yards or you want to use for long-range shooting or ranging I would look elsewhere. I have had a total of 3 units. One failed, Vortex sent me a loner while waiting on a new one, and the new one. All worked about the same.

SIG Kilo, point and range, couldn't be more impressed in comparison to Vortex.

I have had a Vortex Ranger for almost a year now. For bow hunting it is more than capable. Also used it to range Whitetails out to 300 yds. Have not had the need to use it at further distance. I love the red reticle and also the "scan" mode for setting distances from the stand while archery hunting.
