So does it need the plate that goes on the bottom to fit in the tripod? I have a plate for my spotter, but wouldn't want to have to remove it to use the adapter for the binos...

It might fit some tripods but I think it's designed to add the plate as it's threaded on the bottom.
There are a few different sized plates/tripods so hard to have a "universal" fit for all.

Easier to get another plate for this and the spotter
