Does anyone know of any good hands-on reviews and tests with these two scopes? I’d be interested to know if the Gen II PST is any better in terms of erector durability and tracking. I’ve heard that Ryan Avery has been testing an FX1000, but I haven’t found any actual tests or reviews on the internet. I messed with one yesterday at Cabelas and it passed the eye test, but the real value is on the durability, repeatability, and accuracy.

Do you habe instagram? There’s s guy I know who has shot both extensively and I’m sure he could answer any questions. I have one of the PST Gen II’s but have not had my hands on the Nikon yet.

Nope, not on the intstagram. I got a PM from another member who recommended I stay away from both scopes and look at SWFA or stick with NF SHV.

I can not say for sure but I believe he gets free or discounted stuff from Nikon so I would take that into consideration. I have used both. I am still testing the Nikon. The Vortex is a nicer scope but I had to have four of them before I got a good one. Vortex assured me it was a fluke. I was one of the first to get them off the street so maybe they had some bugs to work out. I do not think you would be disappointed in the Nikon. To me its turrets just are not as nice. I am also testing out a Zeiss V4. My initial impressions are that the Zeiss will be the best of the bunch if you do not need illuminated reticle. I hope to have a better feel in the next month after more tracking and glass testing.

You should consider this as a possible option as well.
Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30x55mm
Athlon Optics – Rifle Scopes – Binoculars – Red Dot Scopes – Spotting Scopes – Rangefinders – Riflescopes >> Blog Archive Athlon Optics - Ares ETR 4.5-30x56 First Focal Plain Rifle Scope

I like my PST Gen II and I have 2 of the Athlon Ares BTR’s and IMO they’re just as good and even better in some ways. The new ETR will be an even stronger competition with a 34mm tube and improved turrets. Just a thought. I haven’t had any issues with my PST Gen II or the Athlons. I shoot a lot!!!

I would probably take the three scopes I mentioned over the Ares BTR but the ETR looks like it could be the real deal. My biggest gripe with the BTR was the turrets and the ETR seems to have fixed that. I may get one to test but I am not a big fan of 34mm tubes. I really do not want my scope sitting any higher than it needs to.

I thought everyone had already figured out that Vortex is not the answer unless it is a Razor series... Best and most used warranty in the industry

I would take a 34mm over a 30mm tune any day and every day of the week!! FOV and light gathering capability of the 34mm is unparalleled. Another benefit is generally more vertical and horizontal adjustment for ELR applications. The tube diameter has little to do with the actual scope-to-barrel height as long as it’s properly mounted with appropriate scope rings/bases. Sure it’s not going to sit as tight as a 44mm obj, 1” tubed scope but there’s no real world accuracy advantage as long as one can maintain proper cheek wield.

Ya, maintaining cheek weld with a pic rail and low 30mm rings is already difficult with most stocks and I will not add the weight of an adjustable cheek piece. I am glad you like the 34mm advantages but they are not for me.

Now sir can you please explain how the scopes tube size correlates to FOV and light gathering??

Accuracy based on tube size??

I'll grab the pop corn. This will be entertaining.

It's like fishing with tip-ups. Flags popping up all over the place.
