Vintage Cooper Unicorn

I may have purchased a unicorn Cooper rifle. It is a model 56 Custom Classic in 30-06 made in roughly 2011. Cooper never offered this caliber in model 56. This one was custom made for a Cooper employee. It is matte blued & has a claro walnut stock with tiger striping, inset sling studs, fleur de lis checkering on forend & grip, an African ebony forend cap and a Farrell/Cooper 10 MOA rail. It is in like-new condition with the original box, but no target. I'm told the employee test fired it himself & didn't keep the target. Any idea what this might be worth given it is possibly the only Cooper model 56 30-06 in existence?

This will only be worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I understand its rare, but to make it more valuable you would need to find someone who desperately wants this rifle.

There is a robust secondary market for unusual, high quality Cooper rifles. Finding buyers is extremely easy.

Do you have any way to prove the provanence of the rifle? "I hear" and "I am told" bring no tingles to my feel goods when considering the rarity or value of an item.

Was the rifle rebarreled in the last 15 years? Something to consider since it is a fairly easy task these days. Not saying it was, just can't tell much from the photos.

It is a gorgeous rifle so at a minimum the average price that one of similar construct would sell for. As was stated earlier it's all about the right buyer.

The rifle is today exactly as it left the factory. I will request a build sheet from Nighthawk/Cooper on Monday. I live in Stevensville where the rifle was made. This is a very small town so I know several people who worked there, including the guy who sold it to me. But who owned it has no bearing on the value. The value is based upon what it is, and that much is self-evident. It is unlikely that I will ever sell it. I own a lot of rifles and this is now by far my best.

My guess would be $3,500 to $4,500.
