Nice. Did you just get the v520 or is that what you have been using for a while? The 550 looks like it gets 10x more zoom via the Intelligent zoom only so I really wonder if I wouldn't be better off going with a v520 for now. I like saving money and it won't hurt as bad when I dunk it in a river or drop it off a cliff.

I have had it since early December.....I like it so far....I carry mine in a pelican 1060 case to keep it waterproof. Yes it says its water resistant but after dunking it in the tub it didn't leak any water inside the case so its good enough for simple short submersion.

It takes good enough quality video for me, but I'm not really trying to make professional videos or anything. Just another way to document some of my endeavors for myself and or friends and family to enough more or less. Still I will be getting most of my footage with my Olympus TG-1 as its always in my waistbelt pocket of my pack or in the cargo pocket of my pants to take pics and video when I wouldn't otherwise bother.

Oh, the 520 doesn't have Wifi? I was just reading on it and the page I was on said it had Wifi and NFC. Not that they are crucial but it could be nice to have.

Luke, I will be interested to see how you like it after using it a bit. I as well don't need anything super fancy, just something that is convenient and the zoom range on these looks to be quite useful. Plus, there may be a few things this summer/fall that will be worth capturing some decent video of :D

Edit: Yeah, they both have wifi. Pretty much all of the features are the same.

My bad.No WiFi on the JVC.The v520 does. Yes, it looks like the 550 has higher optical zoom, and a year newer.I'd stick with the v520 if it suits your needs and save the money.
