Viam or EE for Synthetic Quilt

I am wondering which way you would go for a Synthetic Quilt? I am looting at the EE Revelation Apex or the Viam Outdoors Quilt

Don't know what the difference in price is, but EE has been around for years and has a very good reputation for quality and customer service. I believe that Viam is a relatively new company, but I haven't heard anything negative about their products or customer service.

One of my main concerns is the durability of the fabric used. Neither sight talks much about what they use.

With EE you can specify different fabrics for your quilt so you could always just chose a heavier, tougher fabric. Get in touch with them and ask

Ive been using an EE quilt for 3+ years now and it goes everywhere with me. Raft trips, car camping in the desert, backpacking, friends couches. Dogs all over it, etc etc. Its made of the lightest outer material and I have not had a single rip or tear. Im not sure what you plan to do with yours but I think it will be fine. If it does get a tear it would be easy to repair in the field and then you could probably get it fixed by a seamstress when you got home.

Not sure about VIAM but MLD is pretty comparable to EE with the Spirit quilt weight and cost wise, that's what I got because they would add a poncho hole and EE wouldn't. Nunatak is another option.

All of these being cottage ultralight companies are going to opt for a very light outer shell unless you tell them otherwise with EE probably being the easiest to get them to step up from 10D to 20D. Personally I don't worry about my 10D shelled quilts.

And at quick glance the Viams seam to be quite a bit heavier than EE if thats a factor for you.

If you compare straight across they aren't really. Unfair to compare a down EE to a synthetic VIAM. VIAM only does synthetics at the moment. I compared a long, wide 30 degree in both companies' offerings and there was a two ounce difference. Ten dollar difference in price. If you need one quick, then VIAM is the way to go.
