Anyone have a vest they recommend?

I’ve been using an alps but it has way too many buckles and the pad is about as thick as paper.

One thing I hate is the box call holder - it’s a huge waste of real estate for a call I will never use. So if there is one made WITHOUT that - I’m all ears.

I move alot when I hunt so being able to put the pad away quick and with minimal motion is a huge plus and mine doesn’t do that currently.

Some of the Ol Tom vests seem pretty nice though I have never owned one. Every now and then I see a Dixon or Limbhanger vest on ebay but I've not had the scratch burning a hole in my pocket the couple times I've seen them. If you can find a Dixon or a Limbhanger vest for sale and you have the money, I'd buy it if you want a really good vest. They're both just about the same layout. I know a guy that bought a Dixon when they were made and I'm doubtful he will ever buy another vest. Nomad's new vest seems pretty nice but they're pretty proud of them and they look kind of heavy.

As far as the box call pocket, I never use one and haven't carried one in years. I put my thermacell in mine since my vest doesn't have a pocket for it.

I wish they would all just quit putting the box call pocket in these vest. They’re always too small anyway. You can get a really nice leather holster for a box if you want to carry one. A nice durable pocket for pruning shears would be a lot better. I use an Alps grandslam vest that I like pretty well. I took the seat frame out right away and Abe done some other modifications to it. I also have a Kifaru hydro harness pack with a hill people gear chest rig for a lightweight set up if I’m walking really far. You might check out the new Sitka vest and the Grounded vest. They both get good reviews. I think the grounded vest needs just a couple tweaks and it will be a sweet vest by it’s going to fit too big for me anyway.
