Vertix tune/ spec help

Trying to get my 26-in 75 lb vertex tuned up. ATA was a quarter inch long so I twisted cables until I got it dead on 30. And also the cam timing is right with the draw stops touching the cable at the same time. Brace height is set at 6 in but my draw weight is at 79.... That's 4 lb over spec. I'm not sure how to resolve that without screwing up the other settings.

Appreciate any help

Personally I think you over twisted your cables. Which would increase draw weight and decrease ata. There are + and - specs, your ata does not have to be right on 30. My halon 32 is 32 3/16 ata . Honestly I tune my bow by what I'm feeling or seeing when shooting not by an exact number. Not a bad idea to check specs after a new string/cable install but I wouldn't go twisting and unwisting to get exact numbers. I'd only twist string or cable if my bow is saying I need to. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I agree that twisting up the cables is definitely what increase the poundage, but in order to get the best performance out of my bow should I not be dead on specs?? Not just within tolerance??

Not trying to say your wrong, that's the best part of working on your own gear you get to do it your way. But if getting one dead on throws the other off then it's really not getting your bow to exact manufacturer specs. Now to decrease your draw weight to "exact" manufacturer specs you will have to untwist cables increasing your dead on 30" ata or twist string decreasing your ata. So how are you planning to get everything dead on factory specs? I may be wrong but I would guess many of the top tier archers are tuning their bows to them not tuning to exact measurements.

Okay, fair enough and I see your point, but what spec do you try to achieve? There has to be some basic ground rules that says hey you need x y and z in spec more than a, b and c.
What I'm asking is in your opinion, what specs are more important, and which are least?

Personally I'm measuring 32 3/16 ata, 15.5# hold weight, 62# peak weight 6" brace and 27.75" draw. With a halon 32 6" 60# with 27.5" draw 75% let off mods. So... I'm not claiming to be an expert but if I had your set up I would probably untwist cables to get your peak draw to around 77# or under. I believe mathews ata spec is 1/4". I think if you get your draw weight down a little and then double check your cam sync on the draw board and verify ata is in spec you'll be good to go.

Draw length is most important.

As long as the other measurements are close to spec I don't worry too much. Mathews will generally run pretty long on DL. I don't mind if my ATA is 1/4" or so off.

Being “dead on” with all specs is rarely if ever possible. Your results are an example, get the ata “dead on” and the draw weight is high. The +/- is referring to the change in specs, that will normally occur when tuning to change draw length, draw weight or get clean arrow travel. I don’t worry about ata, as long as you are close to spec. I use my twists to fine tune my draw length and weight and only check the ata to make sure it is in spec.

Honestly I think this is totally normal for Mathews, every bow Chris Bee pulls out of the box with 75 lb mods reads at 79. I think your fine.

Manufacturer specs are not precise. Just think how crazy that would be that every Vertix (different draw lengths and weights) would fall exactly at the specified axel to axel, brace height, draw length, and weight. Also, what if a company made an awesome bow and the best performance came at 32 1/8" axel to axel and 6 1/16" brace height? Do you think all the marketing would say that or just 32" and 6"? Just trying to get your head around the idea that specs do not need to be exact.

My Vertix is just over 30" ata, brace almost bang on, drawing long and hitting 71 lbs. More importantly, bullet holes with fletched and bare shaft and grouping great out to 90 yds.

All right guys. Thank you. I'm going to restart this morning and get the draw weight and draw length close to right first and make sure the cams are turning over exactly the same and see how it does.

Thanks!

If you back out the limb bolts until your draw weight hits 75lbs, your draw length will extend a little. If that's a problem, you might try 70 lb cam mods. Bottom out the limb bolts and you've got 74 lb draw without the extended draw.

My VXR at 27" w/75 # mods is pulling 79#'s. I just replaced the strings and it was 79 #'s with both sets. At my dl I considered it a bonus.
