Valles Caldera elk tag

We drew a Valles Caldera elk rifle tag. 1-237 odds. I'm super excited but we've never hunted there before.

Any advise for this October 24-28 hunt would be appreciated. One of my friend is in his 60's so we're concerned about access, too.'

To the OP, I have to think that later hunt is a bit tough, but still good. The pressure in adjacent units should keep the bulls on the Valle. Otherwise, I am no help. Good luck and keep us in the loop on your planning and hunt.

Hunted there several years ago. The place is amazing. The herd population was near 3000 Elk that year. The best part about it was the terrain, very easy walking and a very good road system. You will have a great hunt.

Spectacular place. Congratulations. Look east and give a wave to my father's ashes on the big hill across the highway for me. He grew up hunting all over those mountains.

I read your thread from 2018, congrats but its missing some "content" lol

Every time i pull up google and onx its like ah jeez where to start, it all looks so good. So many parks, feed, water...

Did anyone get contacted by the park about when the orientation briefing will be? It said day or 2 before the hunt if i remember right but i havnt heard anything

The home field advantage.
i hunted 53 last year and 50 the year before.
This one should top em off.
Hopefully i will see you down there. Going solo as i dont have anyone to call and archery with more people feels counter productive.

My advice is to wait until you find the one you like and decide before the hunt what you want then wait for that bull to step out. You will see 100 mature bulls every day. Have fun.
