Utah Spike vs Any Bull unit

The only opportunity for me to hunt out west this year will be the opening week for archery elk in Utah. I would be purchasing a general tag. I would not feel the need to hold out for a bull in this circumstance but would be just fine and happy shooting a cow or a spike.

So my question is will I have a better opportunity getting into elk in the spike only units, compared to an any bull unit?

Really depends on the unit.

If you don’t care go spike LE units and get a cow, the any bull units are tough here, there’s a reason we have the lowest tag price for an OTC elk tag.

Past experiences I'd say more opportunity in LE unit for spike or cow if your not picky on what you want, also does depend on the unit as stated earlier.

Agree with what’s been said. You should have the best opportunity at killing an elk in the spike/cow units for archery.

Pick an LE unit and hunt over a water source - should see cows pretty easy.
