My first bear, I put in for ten years before I finally drew. Utah changed their hunt to a summer hunt this year if you wanted to bait. The third night this guy came in and I couldn't keep my finger off the trigger. He's not very big, but it was a rush hunting them off the ground in a blind. Can't wait to do it again!

Bad ass color!

If you don't mind what general area were you in? Still not sure where I want to burn my points.. Leaning towards Book Cliffs Little Creek Roadless or somewhere in La Sal.. Still probably a year or 2 away though..

I drew the Kamas unit, as a resident it took me 10 years to draw, I can't wait to do it again!

Congratulations! Great bear. Do you have a comparison between the old spring and new summer season? Trying to decide how to burn my points

It seems the spring hunt you take the chance of having bears not even being out of their dens the first few weeks of the hunt around here. Now where the spring hunt is spot and stalk or dogs only (no baiting) it's a tuff hunt for the unit I drew. I met a new friend that had the spring hunt this year and he did not tag out. Even the guys that run dogs around here had a rough time getting in bears. Others I have talked to have had some big bears out in the daylight on baits. I worried about it being so hot in June that they would be nocturnal but I had three different bears coming in during daylight hours the first week. I wish I could have kept my finger off the trigger as a much bigger bear came in the day after I harvested mine, but I was excited and he gave me a great shot, no regrets! There's always next time.

Do you have any trail cam pics of your bear and the others on bait? I would love to see them!

Congrats!!! Yeah its nice that they made adjustments to the bear hunt in utah. My buddy drew the wasatch tag last year and we couldn't really get the baits set up until the last week of april.
