Lucky kid! It’s been 6 or 7 years since I’ve been in there and it was a few archery seasons but I’ve prob got some intel that would translate if you need a backup plan

I have been saving points for general deer for a few years waiting for this year. My oldest boy can hunt this year and I figured I'd have to give up my tag for him to be able to hunt. We both drew buck tags.

Me neither (on drawing)! Was a shoe-in for a GS muzzy tag but point creep got me I guess.

Is anybody else a little surprised by the results of the draw? I had 5 dedicated hunter points and put in for a unit that has only needed 3 (for the last 4 years to have 100% draw odds) and still didn’t draw. My buddy with 7 for the same unit didn’t draw either. And my resident buddy, also with 5 (should have only needed 2) also didn’t draw. We were all shocked to say the least.

I think the price increase scare made a lot of guys decide to try and draw out… myself included

Did you check tag numbers? Depending on the unit, your draw odds are only accurate in reverse, and need to be checked against current tag numbers. If they cut tag numbers by 30%, the ratios change and the draw odds worsen.

According to the the information I was able to find, the only change they made to the unit was they went to 4 point minimum with no tag changes. Just disappointed to say the least.

To follow up, after some extensive digging, I found out that the unit was already “full” of dedicated hunters. But they didn’t bother to publish this bit of information, or if they do it has to be in the most obscure place in the world. I do tons of research prior to the application and didn’t see it mentioned even once. That just adds to my frustrations with Utah.

Yeah, you cant look at last years odds for dedicated. The tag rotation changes every year.

Dedicated hunter numbers fluctuate a lot depending on the total tag numbers added or subtracted to the unit, and how many people fallout the year pervious after their 3 years is up. I have never been able to find published numbers for the amount of tags being issued on dedicated hunter. I can understand why you're frustrated!
