User Friendly GPS

My phone isn’t waterproof. For that reason I don’t consider it the proper tool for the job. End of story!

I love my Montana 650T. Big full color touch screen. Quick fixes on my location. Has never failed me. Super easy to use. I don’t think I ever bothered to read the user manual.

I do use onX Maps but again.... my phone is a phone.

Switched to Gaia last year and will be using it from now on. Very user friendly, love the compatibility with laptop or computer when you are not out in the woods. While I am sure OnX is great too, Gaia is much more affordable and has the same GIS layers on it. You can buy 20 years worth of Gaia memberships for the price of a good Garmin.

Thanks for the input. This is exactly what I was looking for. My phone is a phone and definitely not waterproof and I'd probably void the warranty if indeed I did figure out how to take the phone apart and swap batteries. I do have various apps downloaded on my phone but again, I'm looking for a good GPS that I can rely on.

The Iphone is the best solution I've found to date that is my GPS & tons more as it's linked (bluetoothed) with my mini Inreach, I haven't found a single mountain that has slowed down it's service, it's awesome!. I have a huge screen for these older eyes & it has been worlds above my garmin 655T that in itself is a great gps unit. The Iphone trumps it easily these days as it doesn't require cell service to use it.

Put the Iphone in an otter-box or any case that covers the ports & it is now waterproof. The Iphone 8 is waterproof & so are others.

iPhone with OnX is my primary GPS tool, but I carry a Garmin 64st as a backup. I prefer the 64st over other GPS units because of it’s simplicity and lack of a touch screen.
