What is the most useable Night Force reticle for hunting in FFP?

I'm on the fence of going back to SFP but really have no experience with NF reticles. From looking online it appears their MOA reticles are more gear toward hunting than the MRAD.

What's your opinion?

I very much want to find a NF reticle I like. So far no dice. There are several NF references on their site to different versions of their mil-R reticle, they mention a 10mil and I think a 5mil version and I believe one more. A 5-mil mil-R might be good??? I actually posted a thread for folks to post through-the-scope reticle pictures hoping to get a chance to see some of the various NF ones. Might be helpful for you as well? https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/ffp-reticle-image-thread.299649/

edit: found the reference--looks lik there are three versions of mil-R, but the ones that seem to me they'd be more useable for hunting are only available in SFP. From: https://www.nightforceoptics.com/technology/reticles/mil-r-f1-reticle/ (most of the way down the page)

I am very partial to the reticle on the SVH 4-14X50. It is the MIL-R SVH F1 reticle.

At low magnifications, it is similar to a #4 reticle, and at high magnification it works like a mil-dot with hashes instead of dots. Turn on the illumination and the aim point is very clear.

After spending a fair amount of time with it, I think the MLR2 is the best FFP reticle for hunting that they've made. It's not perfect but it's not bad either. I don't think they make the F1 3.5-15 NXS with it anymore...seems like standard practice, the best version and it's not available. I'm glad I was able to grab one.

Got a low and high magnification pic theough it? I cant find a reticle by that name on NF’s website, do they still make it at all?

Looks pretty good. .06mil fine crosshair with half-mil hashes seems about like most of the ffp reticles people like for hunting (and is thicker than Mil-R and most of their other reticles), even if I dont need 10 mils of elevation hold for hunting.
It appears the 3-15 NXS is only on their website in one option--2fp with an MOA reticle (WTF???)--and that reticle is no longer on their website at all. Guess that means it is out of production, along with all of their other reticles that I like?

That was the OG NF F1, their first FFP optic. They discontinued it right around or just before the time ATACR's first came out. They were excellent optics. You used to be able to pick them up lightly used for $1000-$1200 after they discontinued them. I had 13 of them at one point with the MD2 and MD2.0 reticles. Now it's rare to see them for sale and when you do they're $1500-$2000. They are stupid reliable though, especially the milspec versions, those have all of the lenses glued in place.

I like the MD2 over the MLR, with it's break down it makes it pretty easy to eyeball down to .2mil wind holds which is pretty optimal as you can further break that down pretty easy.

If you find one I would just stay away from the H58 and H59 versions. I had a couple of each and NF hadn't yet figured out how to illuminate a Horus reticle without making them thicker than **** so the main crosshair section will completely cover a 1moa dot.

NF has their assortment tighter than a frogs a$$, it seems every time I find something they make that I’d use, they’ve already discontinued it. The MD reticles being exhibit A. I guess I’m just not their target customer.

It is downright baffling that they dont even offer a mil version of their 3-15 nxs scope in ANY reticle. wonder if they havent produced them in a while and are just running down leftover stock.

After a quick search, just looking at subtensions and reticle design, I could like the MD2.0 reticle. I prefer 4 posts like it has to the 3 that the MLR2.0 has. Some pics in the search showed only the innermost plex of the the MD2.0 illuminated and others showed the entire section between the outer bars illuminated. I much prefer a smaller area to be illuminated...one of the things I dislike about the MLR2.0 is everything inside the outer bars is illuminated.

I'd like to put one to use. Thanks for posting about the MD2.0

The nxs line is going to be discontinued soon. To be replaced with three different nx6 scopes.

There’s an NXS 3.5-15 SFP Mil-R listed on here for a very good price. It’s discontinued but you just have to look for deals like that on used. They pop up every few months. F1’s go fast though.

I don’t remember exactly but the main difference between 2 and 2.0 was how it illuminated. I believe the 2 illuminated the whole thing or all of the mil section and the 2.0 was just the center but I could be wrong. It’s been 7 years since I sold them all because I was pissed off at NF.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm going to try and find out what the nx6 may have for a reticle. Hopefully they come out with something useable.
