I just developed a load for my 7PRC and it's shooting great. I used virgin ADG brass that I only trimmed and ran a mandrel through. Should I keep using the rest of my virgin brass to maintain consistency? If I anneal, trim, size and run a mandrel through my once fired brass will my loads be he same? My gut says they will change but I have no experience here. Thanks for a suggestions!

I didn’t know 7PRC ADG brass was out yet! I personally work in 50 round batches. I don’t shoot enough in a weekend to need more, so I would get all the brass once fired then go from there. Your case capacity will increase with fired brass so you could see some changes!

I havent noticed much of a change from virgin to once fired but I have found it 1000 times easier to shoot through all of my virgin and then everything is once fired. Its just a lot easier to track how many firings I have on the brass.

There were a few small batches released recently. I’ve got a couple boxes coming later this week from bullet central.

I would stick with virgin brass til its all gone, then verify the load with your once fired to see if there are any changes. Some cartridges/chambers change more than others depending on specs. The 7 prc is designed to have less change.

How much brass do you have? I normally allocate brass per barrel, and the amount depends on the chambering.

If you have a couple hundred pieces, I would fire it as virgin with your current load then check after sizing it all, keeping it all at the same firing.

It will likely take a couple hundred rounds for your barrel to break it. It’s common to have a speed up in that time, how much depends on a lot, but in general I don’t consider a load till it has 200 rounds through the barrel.

Once fired compared to virgin should get you better SDs if your sizing consistently, if not you could have better consistency with a quality virgin piece like your seeing. Iv never had a load in a quality chambered barrel go from shooting well to shooting like crap with once fired brass. I have had a barrel speed up significantly in the first few hundred shots, and needed to let off the gas to avoid pressure.

Some food for thought.

The goof folks at Unknown Munitions set me up with some pre-release ADG.

I have 500 pieces of brass and and I am approaching the 140 round mark. About 80 of that was factory precision hunter giving a 20 round group of 2.2 inches! I think I will just stick with the virgin brass as suggested and load 100 at a time. As long as nothing significant changes I will just leave everything as is until everything is once fired. Thanks for the help!

In a hunting gun I personally wouldn’t burn up 500 pieces for a barrel, unless it’s a caliber that will last 3K plus rounds. That’s a lot of brass that should have a fairly long life. I’d set aside atleast half for your next barrel as 250 should get you through a barrel with good reloading practices.

Keep in mind your next barrel… that fired brass may or may not fit.

Good advice since I am already on the hunt for another 7 PRC.

If you like how virgin brass is shooting, just simply measure them and size your fired brass to those same specs

That is how I reload my bolt action rifles. One upside is it is easy to keep track of how many firings I have on the brass.
