I understand the argument about being outplayed but another part of me says that the scoreboard is how that is determined. Canada had more shots on goal, and more possession time, but that does not directly impact score. That is simply a statistic, no different than other statistics. It's like saying the USA outplayed Canada by having more saves. I realize there is more to it than that but ultimately it is pucks in the net that determines who won, everything else is just static noise that is interesting and provides talking points but doesn't matter at the end of the game.
Agree that I don't like the 3x3 format for OT. It's not the same game when you take half the players off the ice. IT would be like determining the winner of a baseball game by having a home run derby instead of extra innings.
