I think your question has been answered but understand the confusion. I think suppressor manufacturers (US included) would help themselves with fewer confused customers if they added the context to their rating. IE, XXX dBa, at shooters ear, on a 20" 308 shooting m118. Part or all of the bolded/underlined frequently gets missed.

In regards to the OP - The Reaper, OG, and that new little can from Airlock are all intriguing options to me for a typical hunting rifle. I think if I had a 223 - 6 GT sized case burning <36 grains of powder, the OG is more enticing as it has less gas to deal with using it's limited volume/baffles. The OG-L is just too heavy to be particularly interesting to me on most standard hunting rifles.

I think the only numbers that matter to me come from these summits where multiple cans are all tested in the same way at the same time.

There are so many variables in play that manufacturer supplied statistics have very little meaning in comparison to other cans.

Generally agree. I think they may be helpful if rated similarly to other cans from a given mfr though?

They would have to all agree on the caliber, ammunition, barrel length, microphone and sound equipment, and shooting environment for it to be apples to apples. Would be nice if all these were standardized but I doubt that happens outside of these summits.

If you look you can see that manufacturers supplied numbers often don’t match those found at these summits. All manufacturers are going to cherry pick to make their numbers look better that they supply. Just the way it is.

Similar to mpg numbers of cars often get downgraded when actually tested by a third party.

I was trying to find that out, but I didn’t see anything online.

PS - Pew is entitled to do as he likes, but as long as he chooses to charge businesses and consumers for the results, I will choose not to pay him for them. I won’t pay for the data unless I get access to a totally comprehensive and complete set of it.

I like the Summit Results because it is all done on the same day in the same place. I hope there is an annual summit and that every manufacturer attends.

From that standpoint, what would prevent a Rokslide suppressor summit? Enough people on here own a breadth of suppressors that an organized meetup could accomplish the same thing. There was an organized optics get-together that @Tahoe1305 put together a few years ago that turned out really well.

Any company worth a snot does that. The environment changes a couple-few dB; not 6-10 as you see with some results.

Not all manufacturers cherry pick. US uses a TBAC UL7 Gen2 to start every test to ensure a known standard and its numbers are recorded for that day. If any weirdness happens, the UL7 is shot again to check baseline. Then, if a US can ranges from say 131 dBA to 134 dBA- such as the OG, US states 133-134 dBA. There are plenty of times the OG has metered below 132 SE dBA, but Cliff, nor Ryan are interested in BS’ing people. US numbers are much closer to “worst case”, than best case.
