UroLift

Mine went well. If anyone in the future considers having this done, I can share my experience. It worked.

My urologist is not a fan of having pieces of plastic in the prostate. I went to him specifically as he was listed as a center of excellence for the Rezume procedure which I had decided what I wanted done after researching options. Had it done and was back to 30 yr old normal within a month, a year out now and good. There is a continuum of procedures from least invasive to most, Urolift is the least, followed by Rezume, water blast, laser ablation to TURP. As you go up the list complications increase. The two most concerning from my perspective was urinary incontinence and impotence. Your prostate size can dictate what procedure is appropriate for you.

Thanks for this. I'm not a fan of any procedure, or medication (one of which was an option, but it would have to be for life). I also wanted to go with the least invasive. FWIW, I think my UroLift devices are metal, but I would rather not have anything inside me either. My recovery was pretty quick, but notwithstanding some of the reports online, I did come home with a catheter (that lasted for a day). I've had one before, but this one was particularly sucky because of the nature of the procedure.

I was on an alpha blocker for 10yrs, went from running 3 miles a day at a 7 minute pace for 30 yrs to run a block, walk a block in 2 weeks on the alpha blocker. Elk hunting at 11k was take 25 steps and rest for a couple of minutes then another 25 steps, this was only with climbing not walking on level surfaces. Could walk miles on level but any climb wiped me out. Had a stress echo with treadmill just to confirm my heart was fine, went to 200 heart rate with 200 systolic blood pressure and an ejection fraction of 65% at age 68 so the pump is fine. Thats when I decided I needed a permanent non drug fix to the problem. Exercise tolerance off the drug has continued to improve, not yet back to running, bike 10 miles a day. Given the low rate of side effects of the minimally invasive procedures today I would pick the procedure over the drugs if you are active.
