Urge 2 Hunt cow elk hunts?

I was there last December for cow elk hunt in the mountain with Brett sons and I killed my cow elk in the first 10 minutes of the hunt, don’t hunt hunt at the farm , Serge charge double for cow elk which is $1800 , if you hunt with Brett is 1k, stay away from Serge, he got me once and done.

I am looking for a Cow hunt for 8 people as a company outing for my guys. Any Recommendations

First I like to say that Serge is a very responsive guy, who tries to find quality hunts for his clients. U must remember that all outfitters exaggerate and lie even to booking agent. He obviously can not go to all these places and must trust outfitter.

I booked a 2024 Cow elk hunt in Idaho unit 72 and Serge mailed me outfitters info. I called him and made arrangements to stay in motel In Bancroft Idaho 15 miles away.
Outfitter assured me that I will get my Elk, when asked about success rate, he replied 100%.
First morning I was unfortunate to hunt with outfitter son, an inexperienced young guy, who was very sure of himself. He wanted me to use his rifle and did not like it when I refused. He did not want me to load my gun till we saw Elk. also to set me scope at average shooting distance for the area.
Driving around in great SXS suddenly we came across 5 Elk, but they kept running, then I located a herd, but by the time I loaded my gun and set my scope at 400, they were gone.
Instead of going after herd, he drove like a mad man to camp where his dad saw elk.
He took his rifle out and wanted me to shoot at moving elk at 865 yards!

I had told him before hunt that 500 yards is my preferred distance. Beside I could really only shot the Bull. I am an ethical Hunter, hate to cripple an Animal.
Then he used me to push elk to other Hunters who killed 2 at 180 yards.

Luckily he did not want to guide me anymore, so I got a guide name Chris, absolutely outstanding guide
Rest of the 3 days no elk.
So instead of 100%, it actually turned out being 33%, and each day, morning and evening hunt drops it to 17% at each outing.

I bought a tag from serge a few years ago. I knew the area and wanted to hunt it and he was the only one with a tag available and I was able to get a deal I was happy with but I definitely got the used car salesman vibe from him and I would buy from him again but only if I knew what I was getting.

I’ve met Serge at SCI, never hunted with him but got the feeling he tries hard to give you a good hunt. As profile in the story above,All of these guys are at the mercy of the outfitter and Guide you get.

In my case, the landowner was a stand-up dude and Serge was a liar trying to sell tags on false information. Plain as that.

Yes probably, I get where you are coming from. I do wonder in todays world of high demand and low supply if any outfitter worth using needs a broker? Seems like a profession that’s dated. Also if you are being trusted/charging to recommend someone you better know what you are recommending or be prepared for the backlash.

If an outfitter does not deliver on said services and provide a good hunt, why would a broker represent him? Serge may not provide the actual hunt., but his name and reputation is certainly at stake.
If I was an agent and the outfitter 100% was not honest and was a failure, I wouldn't sell his hunts and I would spread the word throughout the industry.
Very few people have the balls to lower their own paycheck.

Exactly! The good brokers aren’t car salesmen and have 100% visited (or hunted) the property before. The good brokers aren’t just selling hunts for unknown landowners.

Serge demanded to be paid Venmo F&F only also should have know better, got to the farm and the rancher said he had not seen them in the field at all, saw a few a week prior on BLM that's it. Rancher knew we were being screwed, I think, he never even came out of his house to meet us or answer the phone, he would only text us back once in a while. Sorry but not how I like to do business.

It’s a rip off. Land you can hunt is tiny and no way elk are there. Save you money and find something else.
