Urban optics?

I'm posting here because y'all are the most knowledgeable optics folks I'm aware of.

I'm a part of an urban/suburban search team. We look for people who've gone missing. It's usually runaway teens and stuff and they're holed up at a friend's place.

I always bring my binos on a search but I've occasionally been stationed to watch a house and wondered if a small spotter wouldn't be a better choice.

A 50mm would be perfect, size wise. I understand the limitations of light gathering, but a big old 80 or 95 lens hanging out the window of the truck screams "creeper"

With the limited range use case, are the lower end optics a viable option? The Vortex Crossfire line really has my attention right now. Much more expensive than that, and it's out of my budget for this application.

At most, I'm trying to ID a face at a couple hundred yards. Maybe snap a pic for confirmation with a digi-adapter. It might serve double duty at the range for 300 yards and in work.

Additionally, are there better options than a window mount?
