Updated Partition bullet

I'm on both sides of the fence of frangible vs tougher bullets. I have killed enough animals with various bullets and followed all the necropsy tgreads to know that pretty much any bullet will kill an animal if it hits the right spot. Ive also seen that manufactures have tried countless ways to hit a sweet spot, interlocks, corelokts, bonded, thicker wall bases, monos, also people use frangible match bullets to get higher BCs and bigger wounds. It seems that Nosler made the best of both worlds decades ago. The partition nose fragments quickly while the base keeps driving. Its still loaded in factory ammo, but many desire a sleeker high BC bullet and its not even available in many of the newer cartridges. Whats the chance that a new style partition ever becomes available? Same design with a sleeker ogive and better BC. Not as finicky of impact velocity as many newer designs. Federals terminal ascent came close but is bonded with 90 percent weight retention. Im thinking closer to the 60 to 70 percent retention of old. Am I the only one that thinks this would be a good seller?

Yep, it’s called the accubond. Theres simply no longer any need for the Partition design with bonded cores and controlled expansion jackets.

I love both accubonds and partitions, I’ve shot a lot of stuff with 180g partitions out of my 30-06. Probably my favorite combo out there.

I play around with the ELDM and tmk in my 6.5 but other than that, it’s nosler all the way.

Agreed. For normal hunting, I want hunting bullets.

The accubond doesnt shed weight quite the same, close but not quite. If you watch gell tests the partition petals always fold back and tear more than accbond. The partition front definitely fragments quicker

Yes, that would be an excellent bullet.

The Terminal Ascent isn’t remotely a Partition in wounding.

Accubonds aren’t remotely a Partition in behavior. They are a standard bonded bullet. Most Partitions fragment heavily in the front portion like a tipped match bullet- Accubonds do not do that.

I fully understand that. They are similar in that they were both designed for controlled expansion AND penetration. Yes the manner in which that is achieved is dramatically different.

Yes sir. And that is what some of is have pushed Nosler for- the difference. A Partition with a tip and boattail, and the partition so it holds 40’ish % of its length= the best overall hunting bullet ever made.

ELD-X tried to mimic that design with the interlock at the bottom. Sometimes it does the job and sometimes it doesn't. It would be cool to see a solid copper bottom 1/3 of the bullet and the top 2/3 basically like an ELDM/X. That might workout better. I'm sure Nosler has that designed locked down with Patents so no one can make anything too similar. If they updated it to todays needs, like Form said, it would be the best bullet ever, hands down.

I have always use Nosler Partition 180 gr in my .300 Wby. About 10 years ago I found some of them at a gun shown and bought 1000. I have plenty of power for the load I use, so I think I will never run out. I don't intend on changing because they have performed excellently for elk and moose. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Wouldn’t this be the federal terminal assent? Or are you looking for a sleeker nose yet?

The front of the terminal ascent bullet is bonded. Very little fragmentation

The Partition and A-Frame are vastly different bullets. The A-Frame is a fully bonded bullet; the Partition is a soft lead core fragmenting bullet in front, with a partition halfway back that keeps the back half penetrating.

I don’t know how they would build a Partition that would offer the LR accuracy so many demand. There’s a lot going on in that thing.

I'm waiting for a partition with a boat tail and a sleeker, consistent tip. An ogive pushed back would also be good. Anything to up the BC just a tad with the modern stuff.

I've been shooting Nosler Partitions for over 50 years now - all types of game, and all types of calibers.

They do what I want from them - always have.

Although I have from time to time tried others, I keep coming back to the tried & true.

Doubtful at this stage I will ever change.
