Unknown suppressors OG testing

It's over 50% longer in front of the barrel at 6.3 without reflex. The raptor 2 is 3.9 in front of the barrel. If I had access to a raptor 2 I would have loved to include that as it's the only real apples to apples comparison that exists. Although I would assume the og has substantially better suppression than the raptor 2 and likely also the longer 4.
This is a great point. There are a pile of people who are averse to the idea of shortening barrels or carrying a musket-length suppressed rifle in the field. Those people have largely been limited to suppressor-like objects that accomplish little in terms of dB or recoil reduction. This can appears to be optimized for people who want suppression but also want shorter overall length. I think that is something the market has been lacking and is probably a much better marketing approach than the discussion about tone. AB does reflexes and they work well, but the company has not really leaned into the idea of less in front of the muzzle and more behind it. If you look at their website, they do relatively little to market the idea of a reflex and what it does for you. I own a Raptor and love it, but I can see a real market for the OG.

Has something happened in your life you to make you so bitter.
You used to seem like a decent bloke but now it seems like you are trying to cause a shitfight every time you get involved in a discussion.
Maybe you should take some time away from the computer, or at least find a place where you will fit in a bit better.
It's amazing to me how, when questions are asked or differing points of view from the status quo around here are met with such juvenile reactions. It's like somebody just got their birthday stolen. I'm hardly bitter, and nothing that is ever posted on some misc internet shooting forum will ever change that. That's laughable actually for people to take these things so seriously.

IMO, that's because AB knows that "more out front" means better suppression and noise reduction. Each shooter needs to evaluate their priorities and go from there. The OG needs to wind up under the silencer shop umbrella if you ask me. It will make them much more price competitive, and competition is about to really ramp up if the new bill passes and Trump signs off. The more choices the better.

I’m sorry, but I’m not gonna get into this. This is semantics at best. Nobody else cares or would even understand any of this. I’m not paid to do any of this and this has gotten far enough into the weeds.

I'm not an acoustics expert. I had access to this equipment and have researched enough to use it to share comparison information.

Some of you guys really take for granted that there's a group of people on here who are using their own time and resources to provide information for you.
BUT! What color socks did you have on? I gotta know!

If the bill passes and we didn’t have to deal with insane restrictions on transferability, I imagine that integral suppressors will become the norm on new rifles. And the competition will get a lot more fierce. That’s good for the consumer. I like to think that suppressor technology ten years after passing the bill will be far better than the Rube-Goldberg contraptions we have now.

If someone like US / UM could get into the game early with a 24” 6mm barrel with a 3d-printed titanium integral suppressor for a Tikka or 700, at the $2000 price point, they could change the entire game. Yes, the entire barrel might be fat (~1.5”), but the steel barrel inside could be relatively light and stiffened by the titanium shell.

I’m not an engineer of course. I don’t know what is technically feasible. Just throwing out thoughts.

Everyone knows that, not just AB. What is impressive though is the amount of reduction that US accomplished in the length in front of the barrel that they did.

No clue if they will but it'd be cool if they at least prototyped (and are willing to share results, good lord who knows after this thread) a printed can in the same configuration as a Raptor 8 and a 3" reflex. That wasn't their goal with the OG so despite my thoughts on wanting to ideally see that some day I've just kept it to myself previously.

i’m not totally convinced that an integral suppressor is the best answer either. Definitely worth looking into but if you remember on their hundred round 300 rum test, they literally shot the rifling out of the barrel for the section that was covered by the suppressor. I think the barrel would hold so much more heat and cause a ton more mirage. That was a ridiculously overkill test though. I assume it would be similar to the differences and benefit from one suppressor style to another. Probably makes sense for some uses and doesn’t for others.

I'm sure we'll see some 3rd party testing now that these are available. That will be interesting as well. Like I said earlier, I'm sure the market will decide if the extra 2.3" length of the AB8 is a deal killer compared to the OG.

Even if an integral suppressor isn’t the best way to do it, I have to think that making suppressors easier to acquire and transfer will add some accountability to the system. And produce more innovation, progress, and lower prices for consumers.

If you only want to market to people who spend all their time on this forum, that is a choice. But when people go looking for the testing methodology, there’s no stickied links to any of this stuff. People are trying to buy a product. Make it easy.
I see your point and tend to agree with much of what you have posted above. Presumably the desired market is broader than those of us who obsess on RS, and even though I tend to do that, I had to make some effort to find the testing results again. Making it easier, even for dumb-dumbs like me, would be ideal. OTH, I couldn't really find what I was seeking on the AB site either and am now having to go watch a YT video - which I hate. Just give me a table of the results. TBAC does a good job of that.

Having said the above, I do acknowledge that much of the feedback being provided here, and I believe a great deal of the design and testing, was done by people as favors to us. I try not to look a gift horse in the mouth. But I also fail at lots of things.

I think I've seen enough information, albeit subjective, to be comfortable buying the OG based on suppression capabilities.

Having said that, all this bickering is exactly why pew science exists. I get that it's expensive to have a can tested, and his algorithms are proprietary, but it is the single best place to see comparisons. You don't have to pay to read the results as a prospective buyer and it's truly apples to apples.

Good post. I don't recall reading anything on this thread that denigrated or attacked anyone with regards to the info provided. Could have missed it as I'm not a great Googler, but I sure don't see it. There were/are questions asked, but that's about it IIRC.

Of course they did. And they are awesome. But, once you do so- weight goes up. Trying to sell a 15oz can for hunting is pretty hard.

Everything from a non OTB 4” muzzle forward can, to a 9” muzzle forward can. From 1.5” diameter to 1.8” has been done. 8.6 Blackout can, to a true large 338 can.

You talked past the point I was making. The OG suppresed a lot in its length so I am curious if down the road they make one that is 2.3" more in front of the barrel how it stacks against the AB8 head to head.

To your point though, I have two AB8s so I'm just an interested spectator on US and their OG at the moment cause I don't have a burning need for something shorter at the moment. Maybe I will later and/or maybe some future US offerings will inspire me to lighten my bank account. But the use case is there for others now both in reality or their mind so I'm not gonna piss on any cheerios. If I routinely hunted Kodiak or such I'd want an OG I think.

I have a raptor 4 with a 3” reflex , I’ll compare it to my OG when it comes in .

Sweet. It'll be interesting to see what versions are eventually marketed.

The mental hurdle of weight is one of the reasons the modularity of AB has appeal on paper. If counting ounces you can direct thread it, if not you can run the reflex. Even if you end up never changing things up in reality.

Selfishly, I'd love to see some balance point testing. I'm not sure what the best way to do it is, but mount different cans on the same rifle setup or various setups and find the point where it balances and measure from the butt.

I think that comparison would be interesting for how the rifle carries.
