These cans are niche, the reflex changes tone, not much affect on dba. To get within the best 7" cans on the market. A reflex style can will need be within an inch muzzle forward of traditional supressor length, at a sizeable weight penalty. At this point, why go reflex? US isn't worried about dba numbers as long its hearing safe and meets the minimal muzzle forward form factor they are perusing.

Yes, we all want quiet, minimal muzzle forward length, and light. Unfortunately in this scenario you only get to choose 1 and half of those options. That's the tradeoff.

In many situations, the weight can be made to work. The reason for this is that most of the rifles we are using were built to be balanced with 20”-26” barrels. Just cutting them down to 16”-20” barrels unbalances them. Even rifles sold with shorter barrels aren’t really designed for them. Adding back 4”-6” of titanium (8-16 ounces) tends to restore that balance.

There is certainly a point of diminishing returns with the amount of suppression provided by the reflex portion of the can versus the extra weight penalty, but from a balance perspective, the weight penalty hurts less the further back it is.

An ISB is still the future, as far as I am concerned. These Rube-Goldberg devices we are sticking on the end of our weapons are [hopefully] a temporary thing future generations look at and smile disdainfully. I view modern suppressors much the same as a Snider, Berdan, or Springfield trapdoor conversions for rifled muskets to breechloaders.

Current suppressors are [hopefully] a temporary stage made necessary by stupid laws.

Haha. No. 6.
It looks like you’ve tried the OG on several different AR configurations. I just placed an order for an OG, and thought I might also put together a short AR upper, tune the buffer system for dedicated suppressor use, and the OG could live on that when it’s not on a bolt action.

What’s been your overall takeaway testing the OG on short ARs? Are there any realistic limitations you’ve encountered with this pairing: like rate of fire on short barrels (doesn’t seem likely), back pressure, etc? I know it’s not the design intent of this can so I just want to make sure I’m not barking up the wrong tree with this combo. I see UMs recommendation to keep it under 800 degrees, but I can’t extrapolate too much from that without the can and upper already in hand.

Also by chance do you know which length, the 11.5 or 12.5, with a front sight gas block and carbine length gas would give the minimum needed clearance for the 4” reflex?

The shortest you can go I believe with a FSB and carbine gas length is 13.5” with the OG.

The OG’s have ran without issue on 14.5’s in carbine and midlength gas, with carbine spring and H2 buffer and no other mods. Ejection pattern has been fine, and gas to face has been fine, and really unremarkable in shooting.

Consider building out a piston SBR vs DGI?

I missed this middle section of your questions. I think I covered that above in my last post.

You will not destroy the OG shooting it from what I’ve seen.

This is the 4” muzzle forward section of the OG- the OTB was cut off. 6x30 round mags near cyclic from a 10.5” carbine gas barrel:

I’ve tried to burst the OG multiple times. Without a belt fed I’m not sure it’s functionally possible. Let it cool when it starts to glow and you’ll be fine.
