Unknown Suppressors NHS Review

The taper lock mounting system, is it essentially a direct thread mounting interface to the barrel, and the collar just jam nuts into place? Or is it similar to a silencerco ASR, and does this come with a part (muzzle brake/TOMB) to mount to the barrel first then the collar locks down onto it? Anyone have videos or pics of the actual mounting interface and taper lock mechanism? I have had this item added to cart for over a week but just a bit of info I can't find on fb, forums, or YT. I was about to buy a TBAC magnus-S RR until I came across this NHS. Thank you in advance....

Did some A-B-C testing with the NHS today. My primary focus was where the reticle moved after the shot, as what I want optimized in a competition muzzle device is the ability to see what happened on target as much as possible. I didn't go out of my way to control recoil via my form; to the best of my ability I put in the light side of normal pressure on everything.

First candidate: Tikka 243 shooting 109's. I don't use this rifle for competition, but if you bumped up to a 6.5 Creed it would be an appropriate NRL Hunter Open Light setup.

First test was bipod-rear bag

OG suppressor = on average 3 mils up
NHS = on average 1.5 mils up
APA Little Bastard Gen 3 = on average 2.3 mils up

Next test was simulating shooting over a backpack with no rear support. I didn't have a good pack with me, so I made due with a light fill Gamechanger on an ammo box.

OG suppressor = on average 2.8 mils up
NHS = on average no change
APA Little Bastard Gen 3 = on average .5 down

Next candidate: 6 Dasher PRS Rig shooting 105's, what I'll personally use the NHS on the most.

First test was again bipod-rear bag

TBAC Magnus = on average 1.7 mils up
NHS = on average 1.2 mils up
APA Little Bastard Gen 3 = on average 1.3 mils up

Next test was balanced on a single bag, a heavy sand fill game changer.

TBAC Magnus = on average 1.5 mils up
NHS = on average .6 mils up
APA Little Bastard Gen 3 = on average .7 mils up

I already liked the NHS without the direct comparison, just based on experience. Shooting side by side with a brake it was a bit better than I thought. I really expected it'd be a compromise trading blast for performance, but on these two setups I would choose the NHS recoil characteristics over the APA independent of the difference in concussion. Note, I'm not suggesting the NHS reduces recoil more overall than the APA, just that I prefer the experience of spotting shots with it.

I still want to put it side by side with some of the other braked can's, whenever I can arrange that in the future I will. Maybe Saturday, fingers crossed.
This is info that everyone is looking for! I bet the guys reading on the NRL hunter page will be very interested in these numbers :) I saw the thread about it.

See if that answers your questions.

Good to hear. It was the most quantitative I could get with what I have to work with, and I was trying to be more objective than "I really like it and wish I had it years ago."

Many thanks! That video is perfect I wish it was linked to the product page or something :) I'm placing my order after that last piece of info.

Has there been any more side-by-side testing, with either other braked cans or popular muzzle brakes? Also, I think I recall that Unknown was building some type of fixture to test/measure recoil reduction. Did I make that up? Any update on the status of that?

I just put in an order for a new NRL Hunter rig and am considering options for the end of the barrel.

I haven’t done any systematic testing that I didn’t already post here. I don’t know what Unknown is building, I do know some friends of mine are doing an independent test using a recoil sled and they should have an NHS to include.

It’s hard for me to imagine someone not appreciating it as a dedicated comp can.

Thanks. I do appreciate what you have posted, I was just following up as I thought in one post you said you were going to do some additional comparison against other braked cans. Maybe you did and I missed it. I'll go back through everything again. If not, what you have posted is great info.

Also, I wasn't expecting you to speak for @Unknown Suppressors. It had chimed in earlier in the thread and so thought it might chime in again. Or maybe someone else was more up to speed than me and could point me toward another thread or something.

Thank you.

ETA: Do you know if your friends plan to post their results here or somewhere else?

Appreciate the testing but I think UM just needs to get them in hands in some different regions. If they are a better product it will show quick.

I’d like to try one, I just can’t justify it right now owning a Magnus K with recoil x.

yeah.. the second my scythe with rx brake comes apart I'll be a buyer too but I just cant justify it yet. Probably just a matter of time.

I am risking mine to a match this weekend. Couldn't make weight with an RR so used the scythe to save weight. pray for me.
i used my scythe at the last NRL match I did.
Ill be using it again this weekend at the LaGrande match.
mine has an inexpensive SRS brake on it though.

ha, i did the same thing. Nomad xc + rx was a couple ounces heavier than the scythe+rx so I had to go to the scythe with my new barrel.

I was planning to do those as the opportunity arose, but...it hasn't yet.

Those results will probably get distributed fairly widely but I'm not certain what all channels they'll use. If I remember I'll link them here once they're live. Testing is scheduled for Saturday, I have no idea how quickly all the data will be coallated.
