Unit 70 Idaho Archery Mule Deer

Hey guys, looking at an archery mule deer tag for 2025. I came across unit 70 in Idaho. How is the deer population there? Any thoughts? I am NOT looking for any spots. If you would like to DM about it let me know. I am willing to share info about Montana, Colorado and Wyoming. Thanks.

There’s a chance it goes to a general hunt this year, I wouldn’t count on being able to get the unlimited tag in the draw. Deer population is down, mature buck numbers are lower than I think I’ve ever seen them. Unit is on a decline.

What are you meaning it goes to a general hunt? Wouldn't it be too late for them to make that call for 2025? Thank ya

Season setting proposals are out now, they will solidify them in March. New regs will be out in April. A major proposal in the Southeast region is to turn the unit 70 unlimited archery to a general tag hunt. I wouldn’t hold your breath on it staying a draw, a lot of guys want it general.

Interesting, I see. I will probably only consider if it stays a draw. If i made a complete week long backpack hunt out of it and covered ground, what are realistic expectations? Multiple 140 stalks?

It's a never ending problem. Generally all unit specific threads get locked whether it's in the title or not.

I wouldn't do it, i didn't even see a deer last year. I think unit 39 is the perfect opportunity for non residents

I live in Idaho, When I drive through that unit and look at the license plates I feel like I'm the non resident. I dont even bother there anymore. It gets so over hunted.

Last time I drove thru there I saw camps full of naked dudes hugging each other. It was rough thursday from what I saw. I got the hell outa there.

I could change the title to “ naked dude rendezvous” but I don’t think that’s the type of website traffic we are looking for.
