Unexpected side benefit of "Intermittent Fasting"

I feel one of the main benefits to intermittent fasting is that it provides a structure for when to eat, inherently causing reduced calorie consumption.

What I find is interesting is that for me it's the exact opposite. I think that when I eat 3 meals a day, I end up eating a full three meals a day - every single day even when I don't need it. When I am eating "randomly" I often just skip meals because I'm not hungry. It happens quite a bit when I look at my schedule and I just figure - "eh, I had a big breakfast I'll just skip lunch today." The end result is that I probably eat less, but the convenient bit is that I don't feel wrecked doing it.

There's a good book called THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO FASTING by Dr. Fung. I think it's good to know the "why" when it comes to these things, so that we can forget about outdated, silly notions of calories and applying simple thermodynamics to the human body, and get started applying the real science of metabolism.
