Underwear suggestions

Looking for something to use on a 10 day hunt this September in Colorado. I’ve never been much of a boxer brief guy due to the lack of support. Seems like they tend to stretch.

Any suggestions on something that’s merino and doesn’t stretch out? Right now I’m leaning on the icebreaker merino briefs since that’s a style that I wear daily anyways.

Not merino and available in briefs or boxer briefs but I'm a huge fan of Exofficio stuff. I wear their boxer briefs every day. They are fantastic. Kinda pricey but you can find them on sale for $12 a pair or so.

I worn the Exofficio synthetic briefs, mostly when traveling internationally, but liked them for camping, hunting, etc. They're great, but you need to wash them regularly, otherwise they get funky and for me, I get a rash. That was a challenge for backpack hunting. Merino has been a game changer for me. I've been using the Firstlite boxer briefs for a few years. They work great. For a week long backpack hunt I usually bring two pair and rotate them daily. A lot of guys get away with one pair. It doesn't matter how sweaty I get, they still don't stink. Considering I wear briefs on a daily basis, I was skeptical, (I hate regular boxers because there's no support) but I was happy with these. I have the original longer version, little longer than I need, but they have a shorter version that came out last year. They don't go down your thigh as much. When my current pairs wear out I might try the shorter ones.

One benefit to boxer briefs over a plain brief, it really helps avoid chafing on the inner thighs. If I get really sweaty, maybe wearing a synthetic lightweight pants during long hikes, I can get chafing on the inner thigh. Doesn't happen on a regular basis, but man when it does it wears you raw down there and really has an impact on your trip. I've never had it happen with boxer briefs. They offer just a little more protection against the skin.

Personally I use First Lite merino short boxer. Very comfortable. Also, I use Saxx Blacksheep boxer as well. Both seem to hold shape very well. Synthetics or anything else are a no go for me.

I like the ex officio's too. If you go First Lite, they tend to (or used to tend to) run very large. Actually, the ex officio give-n-go run a bit large too. I have a pair of Smartwools that are my favorite merino, but they are boxer-briefs, so I cant speak to briefs per se.

I wear Under Armour boxer briefs almost every day of the year. At work, in the winter, in the summer, in the mountains, middle-east, etc. I've havent noticed much stretch except for a few pairs that I kept for way too long. Yes, they might stink after a while but at that point I change them or give them a wash in the creek. It seems to me the synthetic materials dry out much faster than merino. One thing to note is that I always take them off at the end of the day and sleep in ranger panties. Gives my underwear a chance to air out and I sleep better not being as nasty inside my sleeping bag.

Ex Officio is also really good.

I am a huge fan of the First Lite Aerowool boxer briefs. I had 2 pairs of the Dobson Aerowool briefs and I can certainly attest to their awesomeness.
1-They wick moisture like no other. I never felt swampy in them.
2-I found them to actually dry out faster than any poly/spandex underwear I have worn yet.
3-They resist stink better than anything I have tried. I am a STINKY dude when it comes to sweat. Usually one day or workout in my poly/spandex boxer briefs leaves me in desperate need of a shower and the underwear of a good torching. Not these. Wore them in HOT days in September with ridiculous amounts of sweat with no abnormal or bad smell.
The bad part is that I blew out the seats in both pairs I owned. The weak part wasn't the merino. It was where the mesh panel was. The merino just wasn't stretchy enough so it put too much stress on the thin mesh panel. Too bad since they cost $45 a pair and only lasted me 2 years. I just ordered 2 new pairs of the Wick line and have worn one pair for a couple days. The Wicks are much improved. They are just as stretchy as my spandex briefs and the mesh panel appears much more durable and integrated into the wool, which when coupled with the added stretch, should hopefully eliminate any failures. Most comfortable underwear I have ever owned. If you get them, however, be sure to size down. I wear a Large in their pants but the medium long boxer briefs are a perfect fit.
If you don't like the merino, the Ex-Officio give'n'go sport briefs are also nice as others have said. I have one pair and they breathe very nicely and don't stink nearly as much as pure spandex or poly skivvies. My only beef with them is they pill like no other. After one wear and one wash, the face fabric literally went from silky smooth to feeling like a billion little cotton balls. They literally looked like they aged 3 years overnight. It is disappointing as those weren't cheap either, but luckily, it doesn't seem to affect their performance at all. Just seems cheesy to pill up so fast. Seems the older versions didn't have this problem. Its probably because the fabric is so thin. They seem rather durable other than that though. No holes or wearing through yet.

How did the sizing run on the Dobson? I have some other pieces and everything runs a little big. I’m typically a medium so I ordered two pairs of the Dobson in small

The Dobson and Wick have the same fit. I would say the Wick is a much better product though, since it has so much more stretch. It will support better and move with you much better as well. I LOVED my Dobson briefs, though. The waist and length were perfect for me (sizing down one size) but the legs were maybe just a tad too tight. This is solved with the stretchier material in the new briefs I believe. My normal waist size is a 36 and should wear a Large according to the chart (which in long pants I do) but I was reading that others said the briefs ran large, so I ordered down to a Medium. I think you are smart to get the smalls. If you have the chance to upgrade to the Wicks, I would suggest doing so as the durability should be improved.

Exofficio here. Recently picked up a few pairs of the new free fly bamboo briefs. Man, they are amazing. I can’t wait to use them in the mountains in September..

I'm really liking the Icebreaker man-panties so far. They are only like $20 on Amazon and the fit is decent. Honestly I'm boxer guy but I'm really liking these. Aside from the occasional weggie and the fact your wearing panties they aren't bad!

My underwear are the only thing i do merino all the time, exofficio didn't work for me and gave little support. Tried a hand full of other treated synthetics, and no go.

Recently iv been using a pair of firstlite aerowool, their short boxer and I really like it minus the little patch of fabric in the mid ball brown eye area, seems like it's not merino and does develop some stink.

I just got the new sitka boxers in and am excited to try them out, very stretchy and supportive, but a longer leg, which I personally don't mind.
