I am getting ready to install a 3-15 SWFA scope with the UM tikka rings. SWFA recommends 18 in lbs and UM recommends between 25 and 30 in lbs. I called SWFA and they said to go with the ring manufacturer recommendation. I am just hoping for some piece of mind based on what other people have done with this combo, as I will be sad if I damage the scope. Thanks in advance!

Roll per instructions that come with the UM rings. That’s what I just did on my SWFA 3-15. No problem

25 in/lb will be just fine. Both of mine are torqued to 25 with no issues.

25in-lbs in the UM rings with the larger screws is the equivalent clamping force of Nightforce UL rings at approximately 16 in-lbs.

The clamping force put into the scope is dependent on the size and pitch of the screws used. 25in-lbs isn’t 25in-lbs on all rings.

That's a good point...Assuming they're 8-40 screws, and standard is 6-48, it would take ~30 in/lbs to match.
Are those screw sizes correct?

Hitting the windage turret and ending up back in the chamber, unless I mounted it in a very uncomfortable position to avoid it.

This was a Gen 1, Gen 2 has those capped turret which would mitigate the issue
I am in the same boat right now with a fixed 10x gen 2. Any update on the rig height and the gen 2 capped windage being an issue?

Mmm I believe you may have read that wrong or perhaps I’m misunderstanding what you are asking.

The 3-15 Gen 1 was the issue because of the windage turret NOT being capped. And being mounted low with Sportsmatch rings.

Once I mounted it on a pic rail with rings and gave it height brass cleared it with no issue.

Oddly enough my Gen 1 6x mounted in Sportsmatch rings I could not replicate this issue despite having the same windage knob as the Gen 1 3-15.

My only Gen 2 I own is a 10x and has been mounted on 308/223 tikka in Sportsmatch and never has had issues with brass hitting capped windage on that scope going on 100’s of rounds since I bought it.

Not sure if that answers it for you
