In for 6x45 pencil barrel. And I will buy a few.

If…

Make sure it’s chambered in a way that allows seating 87-95gr bullets long (Vmax, NBT, 95tmk, etc)

1.97”+ CBTO to jam would be ideal.

The satern 6x45 I have was this way. Would be good to know which reamer is being used before the run is done.

I would say someone loading magazine length with 6x45 will be the exception. Everyone will be loading long. See picture.

Related use case - if the barrel extensions are easily removed by normal people with normal tools, or you can remove them for people - I bet you can sell a few handfuls of barrels to guys making handi rifle stub jobs.

If you offered side charging upper and barrel extension filing services allow longer COAL cartridges, that would be another win too.

Same with the lowers.

Or team up with a manufacturer of lowers to build with deeper Magwell. I got a guy.

Get me a reamer print or freebore for the barrels that you all want. I don’t know anything about it except what Is above.

You didn’t miss anything. I have many irons in the fire on this one. Your question brings up the rest of the story… I want to be transparent as possible.

Yes, this is the Shaw barrel that they offered and you all bought out, but hopefully with a lighter profile.

The barrel and price point of $100 I gave wasn’t stainless. Most in the thread asked for stainless, and Shaw is a known quantity. I want to proceed with stainless and it makes sense to carry the Shaw as OEM. Shaw is the second company I have heard from and they are the most reasonably priced. Another said no.

I am still working on other OEM at the lower price point. One company in particular might get me to the $100 price point, but not in stainless. I haven’t been able to connect with them. I have called several times last week and emailed.

If I hear from them I will work out a deal if possible and their MOQ may make it possible for smaller order quantities of other barrels. I just don’t know how much they said will actually happen.
How much lighter of a profile can you go than the first iteration of the Shaw? They’re pretty thin….

I think the lightest that we'd want to go is the BCA barrels. Since we won't have the gas block, expect about a 16oz barrel. These barrels have been shown by people in the ulul thread to be accurate, at least 3-4 barrels anyhow. We could go lighter, but I think it's a bad idea for a 16".
I would however go even lighter in an 8-10", but it's difficult or impossible to get barrel makers to make them lighter than the BCA profile.
LRI will not anyhow.

BCA 16” profile is pretty small at .138” wall thickness. A smith told me once around .125” the is the minimum if I remember correctly.

I had a couple smiths tell me .100" for safety, and I had a 30-30 barrel that was .5", but that was only at the muzzle, with a gradual taper back to the chamber area. It worked well and was crazy light (tc contender).

I agree, I was going to purpose thinner, but holding the bca in my hand I thought nope, that is really plenty thin.

I happened to be at a store yesterday that carries lots of AR barrels.... Bca, faxon pencil, etc. I picked up one of those pencils and thought holy moly I wouldn't want to trip in a boulder field carrying that... It'd probably rt bent to a 90 pretty easily haha

Yeah, the BCA's are impressively light/ thin. I wouldn't have trusted them if it weren't for a few brave souls in here posting up pics of decent groups

Pic of BCA and SHAW side by side. They both are the same diameter the last third if the muzzle towards the muzzle, but the shaw begins a slow taper thereafter which accounts for the extra weight.

16.5oz BCA (with gas journal)
17.7oz Shaw (portless)
19.3oz Faxon (with gas journal)

I am gonna try to get it as light as possible. We’ll see tomorrow if we can get Shaw to start the taper closer to shave an ounce or more.

I intend to place an order by next Monday at the latest.

Tomorrow AM I will post a link to a separate Google form to gather more specific data on all the variations we have talked about including barrel contour, barrel length, chamber, threads, etc.

With it, I can gauge a little better.

I personally really wanna bring in 22 arc barrels for the BCA bolt action and 12” barrels for all.

After conversations with a few, I am thinking we have what we need for the first order. Once I get a BCA bolt action upper, I'll start playing with the idea of 22 and 6 ARC barrels.

Stainless, .223 Wylde and 6x45 portless 16" threaded 1/2, contoured as light as we can get it, down to BCA profile diameter.

Thanks for all this work hereinaz and Trackselk; I know this has to be like herding cats. Speaking of which...

Sounds like you have a great pair of barrels in the works. For me, at sub-100 it was too cheap to pass up regardless of barrel steel, even though I don't really need any of them. Unfortunately I can't jump in on my three at ~200 ea. It might be a good idea to get a recount of numbers for barrels with the current specs/price(?)

Good idea!
@hereinaz
Do you want people to edit their selection on the poll to bow out at the current pricing?

If you aren't in at the current price point, go ahead and modify your answers to the poll.

Good idea, let's get a good recount.

Even though I am working with Shaw, I am still working on getting better pricing on barrels, especially the 12.5" barrels right now. I just got off the phone with a different barrel maker and I am having him quote the 12.5" barrels for me.
