I'm not very up on SBR sizes, so just let me know if you want different 223 lengths. I based the 6x45 lengths off of memory from this thread, so I might have messed that up as well.

According to another forum, you get about .6gr more powder and 75fps over the 6x45.

From the designer, instead of 5.56 brass, it is necked down 350 legend, so a rebated rim and more steps to form brass. They only pressure tested to 55k psi. They claim 5gr more water capacity over the 6x45 and coal of 2.30” and achieve 6arc performance.

The numbers I saw posted were regarding an 87gr Berger going 3010fps from a 24” barrel. I have an accurate load with the 87 vmax at 2690 from a 16” but I had it up to 2820 iirc when I saw pressure signs. So kind of a Granny Smith vs golden delicious comparison.

I would be slightly concerned with a sticky bolt, where I know (my sample of one) 6x45 doesn’t have an issue.

I'm in for a 16" 6x45.

An SBR length is interesting, but I'd prefer 12-12.5" over the 8-10" range in the poll.

satern already has the reamer for 6mm max.

Probably better off asking them to make 50 pencil barrels, if you’re willing to gamble on the guys who came up with the cartridge having brass available.

I’m out on it, because I know the 6x45 will do anything I want to do in the ULUL. And if I need more, my gasser 16” 6ARC is sitting in the closet, throwing 95tmk’s at almost 2800fps.


If that company could show they have 10,000 pieces of brass on the shelf, and the capacity to turn out more quickly, I’d be interested in the short barrel 6mm max. It currently doesn’t have a niche for me.

I mocked up a 300-350L to compare to 300 HAM’R and there was more than 0.6 grains difference, but 5 grains would be very optimistic, I think.

The other advantage the 6mm MAX has is that more of its capacity is usable. The MAX case is shorter and shifts its capacity deeper in the case, compared to 6x45.

All said though, I agree, unless it can run at the same pressure as the 6x45 and provide a decent gain in velocity, and cases don't stick, it may not offer nearly enough to offset the 6x45 advantages of availabilty of brass, dies, chambers, etc.

I emailed the company last month asking them about barrel options and brass forming. One email address listed on their site bounced back, so I hit another. No bounceback, but no response.

Might be able to get UL Faxon barrels with no gas port or journal.

Finally got around to switching my 6 ARC BCA side charge to a repeater. Pulled the gas rings, gas tube, and extractor o ring. Ran 100-150 rounds gassed to smooth things out since October.

Shot two separate 5 shot groups today and all chambered and extracted easy. Better or easier than my solo 300 223 Shaw portless barrel.

I’d be in for either in 16” with preference to the 22 ARC. My BCA 6 ARC barrel is kind of chunky and driving up my weight. I think I can get it down to about 6 pounds with a 20 oz scope that dials.
