Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I cut down and window aluminum ones for a 1 Oz extra long COAL mag, but they require a lot of precise dremel work to work well, and 3 round max for the long COAL before the integrity of the mag is ruined (unless you can weld aluminum anyhow).

These look like a match made in heaven for a ULUL as long as they’re quiet enough. Light and cheap.

I would like to hear how they sound compared to the Airlock, the Scythe-ti, the S-Ti, etc.

I have one backordered. Same for the Airlock Nano now :D Can't wait to compare them to each other and my other cans.

Out of curiosity how does this compare weight wise to other builds using carbon lowers and such?
My complete lower weighs 6.2oz with the NFA poly lpk, Hogue 15degree grip, v7 ti grip screw, carbon fiber lower.

9.4oz including my quick detach stock.

This is the setup we used to harvest 4 cow elk last month. Each took 1 shot with the 77tmk. Two were over 300 yards.

Not sure if it’s been covered, but the lightest way I found to plug a gas port is a Samson Lightweight Gas Block that’s only 0.36 oz after it’s been cut down.

If you look way back in this thread you'll see where some of us threaded the port and put in a threaded plug. I used jb weld to secure it and it worked great, and I run hot reloads.
-saves you 1/3 oz
Fwiw

Reminds me of the 22 rimfire can I have waiting at the local gunstore (Pluto). It's 2oz and has testing that shows it's comparable with the 4oz banish 22 and mask.
I mention that because if they can cut half the weight there, then maybe the one you posted has a chance of measuring up. How's the internal volume? If it compares with the scythe then this might be amazing, although with my step up to HOT 223 ackley reloads it probably won't work for me ./cry
I'm gonna bet that these insanely light ti cans are going to be easy to dent, but I think it's worth it.

Can anyone with a proper Ackley chamber give us your experience with putting a regular 223 or 5.56 round in the chamber with a SOLO or similar? Since the 223 round is supposed to be a slight (.004" iirc) crush fit in the ai, I'm wondering how difficult it is to get them fully into battery. Thanks for any experience.

-granted, this is only for fireforming

New solo 300 owner here, is this normal?

Without the magazine installed the bolt doesn’t want to stay forward in battery and will still fire even with the bolt halfway back (about 1.75” from forward position). I am struggling to see how this isn’t a problem…

Also, are you guys keeping the bolt catch installed? Seems pointless with this upper.

Your detent bearing looks like it’s stuck. I have a couple of solo uppers, and one of them periodically has the detent ball get stuck. Just slide it out, pop it back to where it is sticking out and maybe lube it. If you look in the upper from the bottom you can see the two places the detent ball is supposed to hold.

Even though it “fires” it won’t fire unless the bolt is turned in battery. You can hold it forward and still shoot it. In my experience it won’t blow open although that’s what my brain thinks it’s going to do.

No bolt catches in any of mine.

That was it, thank you.

For you AR experts. Can I press-through new trigger and hammer pins without taking the trigger apart? Found a stainless set for $5 ($15 shipped ouch) and since they are exposed, I like the extra corrosion resistance. Hmm, at $15 I wonder if there are ti ones out there?

Yep. Should just be able to push old pin out with new pin

As in press out the current pins with new ones? If that’s what you mean, yes you can and it will save you the trouble of compressing a standard trigger spring and aligning the holes.
