Gman, I was thinking of this a couple weeks ago. I wonder if you'd be able to do a different extraction handle that has a lever that acts on a protrusion from the receiver when pulling backward.... Similar to ARC's actions that have the pivoting bolt handle to break the cartridge free.

So you'd be levering the bcg back
I think you absolutely could do that. I've thought about a bunch of different ways to do that and have even mentioned the idea to Elijah at Solo, but he probably has his hands full.

@Taudisio has/had a guy working on a way to do that with a charging handle mod.

After seeing how capable the 223 and its various offspring are, I kind of quit thinking about it much since it's not needed for those, but it sure would open up the Grendel/6.8 SPC case world.

I can’t believe how comical these builds feel! Finally put mine together minus the carbon tube hand guard. I can’t help but laugh holding this rifle. What a trip.
Bca pencil 556 barrel
Solo upper and barrel nut
Tegra lower with random parts kit
A2 buffer tube with farrowtech stock
Hogue 15 degree grip

Any recs on light prism scopes? Specifically between the primary arms 3x slx and the hawke 4x24

I say you win the prize for best UL-UL idea of the month! I want to buy a BCA barrel just to try this out. 😅

Keep us posted on how it holds up.
I'm planning on shooting it a bunch after I finish up the hand guard and work slows down. Should be posting a final product soon. Cool thread and fun little build!

Comical is a great description; I know the feeling. Feels more like you're picking up a toy gun...but then the toy gun kills shit like grizzly bears and moose and deer way out there...cognitive dissonance in a rifle..."wait, this can't actually do that, but it just did. WTF??"

@Taudisio is the resident expert on the PA Prism scopes, haven't heard of the Hawke, but should check them out. He can tell a lot more, but his PA seems like it's been rock solid for quite a while.

I have not played with the hawke, or the 3x primary arms (I want one though). My 5x has never given me any trouble. I trusted my 5x on a deer hunt with a 9 hour drive last year and if performed as expected, dead deer in the last 5 minutes of shooting light. I’d love for Formidilosus to get his hands on one for a drop test, maybe a modified one without dialing up/down, but I’d love to see how well it holds zero when it is REALLY abused.

I was worried about how much usable light those little prism scopes would gather. Sounds like it’s totally usable from your experience. Any opinions on 3x-6x as far as fixed mag optics for these rifles? I always worry about feeling underpowered but any hunting scenario I have been in usually I am dialed out to whatever the minimum my scope goes to ie. 3x or 5x.

This Video kind of sold me on the durability of the microprism. The guy basically does destructive testing on it 5 minutes in. way rougher than anything ive ever put a gun or a scope through. Not as scientific or consistent as form's stuff, but it made me think I could trust it pretty well. Throws it around 15 or 16 minutes in too.

I’ve posted videos of me shooting the 5x beyond 600 yards at steel. 3 out of 5 hits. I usually shoot my big rifles on either 6 or 9 power all the time. For big game, I’d feel confident killing anything under 450 yards, main reason is the rifle’s light weight isn’t as easy to control in field setups.
