Nope.
Hell, I ground off the mounts on mine. Shaved maybe 1/10th of a gram 😄
I'm not gonna do that, but it's getting removed today. I feel like a dumbass for not even thinking about it when I assembled the lower, but I've done dozens of lowers for gas guns and none for straight pull, so that's my excuse.

Speaking of....anyone know what a stripped A1 carry handle upper weighs? Theres slick side ones and I'm wondering if using one for the carry handle mount for a micro prism will be a net lighter upper than a flat top with mount...
I wasn't a fan of the carry handle mount. Didn't instill confidence at all on an AR I played games with and beat on. right at 9oz with the ADM quick release (3x and mount) is where I'm staying. I may buy a lower height though depending on how it all works out with this build. I have the 1.93" and love it on a "regular" AR

I think I'm pretty fixed on a 3x if I can find some sort of black Friday deal. Sounds like the ADM mount is the way to go ?

Yeah but the 3x acogs are sub 6oz. If an a1 slick side is as light as a regular one, even having it milled for the solo bolt might be the lightest magnified optic route. It's a bit out there of a solution I know, but in another life I carried around an a2 with a CompM2 on a gooseneck mount and never had an issue with it so I don't mind carry handle optics.

Yeah, I never carried anything as light as these rifles in the corps. As for the mount not instilling confidence, I mean that specific mount that comes with the PA micro-prisms.

If you have the money to burn, and your old eyes don't need the diopter, an ACOG is more better than the micro prism. For me, I need a diopter now.

I have only used the standard PA mounts and have had no issues.

I’ve owned 2 optics with quick release. Both lost zero as one point or another and they are sitting in a box somewhere in storage.

I don't know that you need the ADM, as it comes with several options. I just like that it's one piece, no separate riser attachments to get loose or have issues and it was available in the 1.93" height I wanted. I'd try the stock mount and use blue locktite before spending the cash on an aftermarket mount. Even if you want the ADM eventually, you can mess with the height and see what works with your "tube weld."

That's my concern, when this is put together, there's a good chance that the mount that worked for 2-gun games will be higher than I'd like for an ULUL build.

IIRC it came with some form of thread locker and I got it all over my kitchen counter and it’s some kind of pink stuff I had never used before. I know I can’t get it off the counter, don’t know how you could get it off of threads 😂

I haven't considered an ACOG. I thought they were generally pretty heavy. What makes you say they are more better?

Let me ask the other Solo UL hunters.... what other rifles do you actually use and/or when would you ever not use your Solo?

My predicament is this... I have several other really nice rifles... Tikkas in 7prc, 6.5prc, .223. Fieldcraft 6.5cm. And I want to build either a 22CM or 6CM Tikka. But I'm just not sure I'll want to carry any of these rifles in the field when my Solo 223 should be a 400yd killer at 1-4 lbs lighter than all of the others.

Full “custom” tikka in 30 nosler and one in 7-33 nosler.
Savage 110 ultralight in 6.5prc
Multiple Ruger Americans (gen 1&2) in different calibers
Gassed (heavy) AR in 5.56
Bought/built/sold many different rifles and calibers.

Currently trying to find a way to eek another 100fps with the 95gr tmk in the 6x45. If I can do that, I would build a clone and get rid of all the rugers except 1 to use as a loaner.

Great question!

I've had a lot of rifles come and go over time, but the current survivors ready to go, other than Solos, are Tikka Superlites in 223 and 30-06 and my favorite, a Kimber Montana in 308. None of those have come out of the safe for a minimum of two years now (the Kimber is really the only one I used regularly for the last 4 or 5 years). - Oh yeah, I have a Ruger American 300 Blk and a couple of ARs, including an ultralight gasser. The gasser does go on snowmachine wolf patrol in the winter, but that's about it.

I run through the same thinking. I have a 700 Ti action that hasn't been used for years. I often think about using it to build some sort of ultralight bolt rifle in some .224 or 6mm caliber, but then ask myself if I'd actually use it. I may do that eventually "just because". The only reason I haven't is that I keep coming back to "but why?".
