Ultralight Tripod Options

Do you use the long or short center column? That long one looks long, and am a little worried about it getting in the way while glassing, but with the short it only goes to 35" tall which under some steep sitting situations is probably not quite tall enough for me.

Also I think it's a little long collapsed to fit in side pouch of my SG backpack.

The short for sure. The ability to get it down low is awesome.

Slik 632 + Tricer-LP = 1lb 10oz. Great for glassing (sitting), decent enough for prone shooting.

Maybe I need to revaluate my desire to have a tripod that collapses down to below 15" because all the recommendations so far are for ones much longer.

Kind of leaning to getting the Sirui AT-125 legs and the Tricer AP head. It will be a hair heavier than what I have now, but meets everything else I am looking for. Looks like if I want lighter I need to get tripod legs that don't collapse as much and will not fit in my SG packs side pocket.

Why don’t you just strap your tripod to the outside of your pack?

I can and have, but I prefer not to. Gets caught up when breaking brush offtrail.
